Author Topic: Possibly a dumb question but can I have vanilla creatures with MW buildings?  (Read 771 times)

Hello,

First off I would like to start my first post by saying really awesome mod. I am a fairly new DF player and after doing a few vanilla forts I figured would give this mod a go around.

Anyway back to my question, right now I just wanted to play with a vanilla setting but have the extra buildings enabled to get my feet wet and not have to learn all the extra creatures and pets the mod introduced right off the bat. I went thru settings and disabled the extra creatures, but all this did was limit my embark pets to fewer MW creatures. The only vanilla mob was Rams and Ewes. Am I doing something wrong or has the mod replaced most of the vanilla embark domesticated animals? If so will continue with current fort but I like taking baby steps, lol, and the new workshops, plus plants, seeds, etc, was hoping to have to learn the pets last after playing a fort or 2.

Yeah, dwarves have their own pets now. Don't panic, just get a breeding pair of moleweasels for meat and vermin hunting, some cavernkeets for eggs, maybe mastiffs or drakes if you want guard animals, and you'll be OK for now. You can learn the rest later.
Cheers.

You can disable the new pets and enable the old pets, no problem. Turn the domestic pets button off (in the creatures section of the GUI) and turn the simple pets button off (in the misc settings section of the GUI)

This way you have the old pets back, and disable the new ones.

Thanks for both replies, I missed the simple pets check, wasnt really sure what that one did.

I do like some of the newer pets, like the mastiff, moleweasels and such, but really didnt want the animated weapons, or plump helmet men and changlelings. Like I said , getting feet wet and didnt want to overwhelm myself :)

I think the plump helmet men and changelings stay even then. Because they are not normal pets, they have special stuff behind them. ;) Without the changelings you cant make water/magma as easily.

Why mastiffs over shaggy badgerdogs?

A tiny, foul-tempered humanoid creature that dwells in the evil mountains. They are known to enjoy drinking liquor and will take any unguarded supplies of booze.
