We need to start multitasking. Collect more stones for the pit and one extra stone to train with. Once we can melt stone with our flames we will have considerably improved our abilities, but that is not for now. after completing the firepit we need to get some food. Catch a small woodland creature with our fire-hardened and sharpened stick, impale it on the stick, then gatherer some sticks and roast it over fire we created. Both palms pointing towards the fire increase it's heat beyond what could be possible for the low amount of resources we gave it.
+1
You already have enough stones for the pit. You get some extra rocks anyways and leave them nearby.

You head a ways into the forest. You decide to hunt with your crude spear. You're not fast enough to catch anything large and its not ideal for killing smaller creatures. You finally give up and start casting stones instead. You have far more success with this and after only twenty minutes and plenty more failures you get a lucky hit on some small furry creature, striking it right in the head. You grab it while its stunned and quickly break its neck. You gather some thin branches on your way back to the clearing.

You toss the sticks into the pit and with some effort you work the dead creature onto the dull tip of your spear. You set this aside and hold your flame on the sticks until they catch fire. Having simply arranged the stones in the middle of a grassy field, naturally the green catches fire as well. The flame spurts and easily spreads past the arbitrary boundary set by the rocks.

Spark
I remember picturing my will and concentrating it into a single point. This tiny white mote.. like light through a pinhole.. and it was so hot! I panicked, tried to escape. Like an animal I had to get away from this searing pain that was trapped inside me. As I moved away, it leapt out! And suddenly all I felt was.. Cold.. And that was when I lost my focus. Why did I choose to think of home at that particular moment? I never want to remember what happened there again. Ever..

Heart of the Flame
I pictured the mote of light again, but this time instead of running I tried drawing it in. Naturally I was burned (after a brief physical examination I confirmed that this experience was purely mental). The closer you are to the heart of a fire, the hotter it becomes. I should have known better, but then how could I resist? I think I need to learn a bit more about controlling the flame outside me before trying this again.

Split
After experimenting with the Heart of the Flame a bit I've found it can be manipulated quite finely. I demonstrated this when I imagined it split into two, thus spawning a pair of separate flames above either of my palms. I've also found that the movement and positioning of my hands is vital to controlling the Flame.

Put out the fire that spreads past the arbitrary boundary we set for it. Start by stomping. If that doesn't work, use our magic fire to suck the air away from the flames. Pay particular attention to the grass in the direction of our hut.

Once that is accomplished, skin, dress, and cook the small woodland creature we just used to demonstrate that we aren't a Disney Princess. (on that note, begin consideration of acquiring a quirky sidekick animal.) Next time, dig a proper firepit.

Picture the fire in your mind. Then imagine it imploding into a singularity.

Hold the branch with the fiery tip away. Now concentrate on the fire making it degrade little by little without letting it burn the entire stick {or our hands}. Rinse and repeat and we'll call it basic Fire management for our Log's.

Also we should name exercises for now on just cuz :D
+1
When you try to exert your will on the flame on the tip of the branch nothing happens. You're not sure why this is. Is it

I think using our fire magic will not have any effect on this fire, since it isn't our own special fire. So, -1 to Froggy's suggestion.

I mean burn away the oxygen in the area near the fire, so as to reduce the amount available to our incipient forest fire, hopefully causing it to sputter out, instead of welling up into a raging, virulent, glorious god of destruction.

You stomp the fire out. Patches of ground in and around the pit are now charred.

You use your paring knife to clean the dead creature. Its a lengthy process with such a small, non purposed blade but you manage it. You dispose of the guts and go get more wood to start another fire. You successfully cook the creature. You eat your fill and when you're done you've got a bit of meat left over. If you want to save it you should probably figure out a way to store it.

Burn the remains so as to deter wild animals and their meat-based curiousity. Time to consider options for stocking up our home. Is there a nearby village or town from which we can get provisions? Is there a trade route we can mug, vikings we can intimidate, or some such?

If we have a second chamber in the hut, why not smoke the meat. Leaving it there to hang and ripen

There is a highway some leagues away, beyond the forest, but you wouldn't know how often it is used. There are no towns or villages anywhere nearby.

So it sounds like whatever provisions we want, we make ourself. ... Uh....Have we any stitching / tanning / butchering skills? Ooh! are there any watertight plants around we can use for water storage? Are there edible plants around? A nice kumquat, perhaps?

You can always try.

Maybe if this was a rain forest, but this is just your standard taiga.

Task #1: See what happens when we push past our limits
Task #2: Do a kamehameha

Attempt to create a fire in both hands, and then use both hands to push this fire into a single point.

Basically, we are attempting to face the two fires against eachother. Either that, or we are trying to exert multiple forces on the fire in order to energize and condense it to add more force to it.

Edit: On second thought, a Rasengan is also perfectly viable.
