Longsword if my choice of weapon bears any influence on my combat performance.
If it doesn't, I'd rather choose a straight razor. Not for any practical reason, of course, but for the sake of showmanship. Thin, sharp blades leave some pretty gruesome wounds, and I assume the tournament's audience would want to see a lot of blood before my opponent goes down.

A weapon type I had in mind was superficially similar to a katar, but it's a blade that's affixed to the forearm, acting as both a melee weapon and a buckler/armguard simultaneously. Is there an actual name you can call that kind of thing, bar "impractical"?

(i.e. the big guy on the right's left-arm weapon here)

There's that gladiator 'scissor' weapon that was already mentioned, which is basically the same idea, except it doesn't allow for any hand movements aside from holding the weapon, apparently.

Wazikashi, Trident (unless thats covered by spears), The Spetznatz shooting knife, Korean War Fan, pata, Wind and Fire Wheels, and lastly, (for now), the Shotel

I'm sure you're questions are related to a game you're making COMPLETELY HYPOTHETICAL.

You might be able to get a more practical effect with a tonfa with a blade on the outer edge.

you're going to get a fan of the korean war if you try that, not a fan for warring purposes made in korea

though i guess "people" is not on the list of weapons too

Hmmm.

New question: Beyond Weapons, what other things would you take into battle? Things that are not specifically designed to injure someone, but could still give you an advantage in battle.

Wings.
Time travel.
Smoke.

Add some more dimensions into battle and you multiply the bonuses that you have in combat.

As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

Grappling hooks.
Well, not grappling hooks, but a net, like the gladiators used. A net, a bola, caltrops, anything designed to make the opponent restricted in movement.

Some marbles to toss on the ground to trip up my opponent.
Some form of scanner that can provide data about my opponent, either worn on the head somehow or in the possession of an ally on the sidelines who shouts out to tell me where my enemy's weak points are.
Some form of rideable beast or vehicle if the arena is large enough to maneuver it in.
Some doves to release for showmanship's sake and to use as a distraction.
A cape to provide distraction and hide an attack from a small weapon.
Something with which to cause fires.
