Can somebody explain that image?
Obviously Ron Paul warned us that EA would do this. Now people are spontaneously combusting. Why do you have to make people spontaneously combust, EA?

Imagine the world being set on fire.

Then imagine this.

Which is worse?

First person mode was the moment when Dungeon Keeper became something truly special...

That... that is absurd! That is exploitation of the worst kind!
Do you have any sources for that? I know a few politicians who are trying to tackle gambling addiction, and I don't think this has pinged on their radar yet, might be worth writing a letter.

Go read Gamasutra on the topic of F2P economies and the mobile market. Commentators have written dozens of articles breaking the system down, because everyone there seems to love mobile these days even though a large proportion of the games they produce are pure cancer. Or maybe it's just mobile devs post more articles to sites about their market. But anyways, yes, as say was stated some games that don't Candy Crush Saga-levels of success base their business models around the 1% of players that spend ludicrous amounts of money on the game. It's why I don't really worry about the mobile scene taking over too much; that's not a model that sustains a studio for very long, people with tons of disposable income or kids who buy and play with their parents credit cards before they wise up. (There's actually some legislation pending to penalize mobile developers for that kind of entrapment I think.) Interesting to note, Zygna just laid off another 15% of its work force. Quality endures. Trash rots.

I think the game gives Gems to people who rate it 5 stars. not even sure that's legal.

It is very legal, Flash games give bonus currency and points for "liking" their Facebook and twitters. Its fucking scary how easily these things self perpetuate, and subsequently spread if even somewhat successful.

Make it stop! Make it stooop!!!!
Although seriously, you could do something similar for First Person shooters or ASCII graphic roguelikes. You can't really get a feel for gameplay differences from a single screenshot... Although something naggles at the back of my mind, knowing that for the games shown, there are no differences, just different payment to reward scales in an attempt to calculate the exact plasticity of the market to bring in the most money.

Well, two of the games have the same damn tagline. Take that for what you will, and 1 of them was Dungeon Keeper. So you may have point.

Most of these "mobile" games are just reskins of the same crap over and over.

Even their promotional pictures (as demonstrated by the link) are all the same. An image of the game, with a character on the left/right, and some statement like "defend x from y" on a banner over the top. Sometimes, they vary it up by rotating the image of the game, or packing several images on the same screen, but thats about all the variation I have seen. All these promotional images just demonstrate that there is a set "template" to creating these images, and there is very little variation.

These sorts of games are created for the sole purpose of making money. Dont get me wrong, I understand that developers need to make money, but "fun" or "creativity" wasnt even given a second of consideration while making these games.

These games have no souls.

Meh, if those whales weren't getting milked by these games, they'd be getting milked by some other industry. Suckers gonna be suckers.

I'm left to wonder what has a higher success rate, the tough looking creatures, or the half dressed women? Considering that the article linked earlier said that the biggest market here is middle aged women, it might be an interesting trend...
