Yikes...yesterday, when I saw that the thread had been locked, I assumed that that was the end of Murderpaddles--I didn't realize it had been unlocked until I checked my email just now.

So...after all that, I'm afraid that I deleted my copy of the save, because I thought the fort was locked for good. I'm really sorry about that. So Skullploder? I have good news and bad news. Good news: you can take your turn now! Bad news: um, it's still last winter and the goblins are still here, soon to be joined by zombies, and there's a forgotten beast, a cave crocodile and a troll hanging out in the caverns which are wide open to the fort. Have fun! Oh, and you'll probably want to wall off a lot of the passages to the surface, too, and roof the archery platform in the brief time you'll have between the goblins and the zombies.

Sorry again, guys; I really did think the fort was gone for good.

Stupid question, but did you empty your recycle bin, too? If not, it's a simple matter to restore the save folder.

If you were really dedicated, Windows has a system restore feature which could possibly bring back the file, too, but I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to mess with that.

rm -rf, I'm afraid. Hypothetically, I could use a journal recovery tool to get it back, but...yeah no. I didn't really want to bring the fortress back from the brink of extinction on my own (in the name of succession it would be fine), or I would've just compressed it and put it somewhere out of the way for use later. )-:

By the way, I hope you didn't mind Ridiculously Stereotypical Jewish Mother Dorf calling you "Iggy," even if it did happen in an imploded alternate timeline.

It's okay. I was just got quite a bit upset and wanted to find out who had called in the Toad. I had suspected it was you and I wanted to know why, If it had been you, I would've barred you from continuing to participate but since it wasn't, I'm going to apologize instead.  I apologize, I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions, even though I would've locked the thread even if I hadn't.( I'm also going to look into procuring an apology gift. Another reason I locked the thread is that I just didn't want to deal with it at that time. Mostly, however, it was to get people's attention. When ShadowHammer messaged me, I realized I had gotten the wrong people's attention and that I was punishing the rest of you for no good reason, at which point I swallowed my pride and unlocked the thread, as well as messaging you to find out what happened. ( Previously I'd been waiting for you to message me. My second great realization is that that wasn't going to happen.) If you can recover the save, good do so. If you can't, don't worry about it.

Further, whoever did report me to the Toad, fuck you! Go the hell away you spineless jellyfish! What I said was not that offensive, nor was it even abnormally belligerent. Moreover it wasn't going to derail the thread, at best it would've ran concurrently to updates for about two weeks. Moreover, the person I said it to wasn't even fucking offended and it's not like I was cussing her out or some shit. Rat-fink bastards. Moreover, if you were hoping to "get the thread back on track", congrats you failed totally! And I, even if I am wrong, have just as much right to say whatever the fuck I want as anyone else. Y'know something? There are hundreds of people who bash my ideals with complete and total ignorance and like most of the human race, I just fucking put up with it. And I argue with hundreds of people on the internet who usually find it amusing/stimulating in retrospect, it's practically my way of making friends on the information super highway. ( It weeds out the idiots and pathetic people and teaches me a lot about the character of the other debater. ) So thanks for screwing that up. And you can go ahead and report me again you coward. You didn't even fucking say anything! That's how I know that you're totally pathetic, and that's why I was pissed enough to lock the thread. Go ahead and report me again because you're nothing but a fucking coward, but at least this time I'll have given you good reason. HHhghgghh.... If you're going to make a "stand", it requires you to actually stand up for yourself you itinerant piece of internet detritus. Not to go and hide behind authority on the grounds that you're being bullied when noone was even talking to you or knew you were there. And I know this is going to be a crippling over-generalization, but this is my chief problem with all you fucking "special-interest" groups. You don't actually want to defend yourselves, you just want everyone else with a different opinion to be oppressed while in the same breath bitching about how you're oppressed! GET THE FUCK OVER YOURSELVES, IT'S THE GODDAMN TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY. YOU HAVE WAY MORE RIGHTS THAN YOU FUCKING SHOULD, NOT A DAMN PERSON IS OPPRESSING YOU! BUT DAMN IT IF YOU DON'T MAKE ME WISH I COULD! To the sensible folk who disagree with me in somethings but aren't a member of those I'm ranting about, I apologize. Not because of my beliefs, but because you had to just read that.

Now that I've got that out of my system, moving right along... So, if you can recover the save, please post it. If not, we begin with Skullsploder.

( In the off-chance that Toady himself watches this thread and intervened on his own volition: We aren't fighting. We aren't causing trouble for the sake of causing trouble. I know I come across as belligerent, and often I am, but name one person who isn't? If this was your doing, it was a massive overreaction and unnecessary censorship that I don't approve of. If everyone else and their mothers can voice their asinine opinions in a stupid way, so can I. I don't believe you did this by yourself though, but I know you have someone's anonymity to protect so keep your silence noble toad. I don't hold any hard feelings, it's your prerogative to ensure the integrity of Bay12, I just posit that said integrity was not breached. Nor was anyone's safety threatened. )

By the way, I hope you didn't mind Ridiculously Stereotypical Jewish Mother Dorf calling you "Iggy," even if it did happen in an imploded alternate timeline.
Not at all. The imploded timeline was rather good. It might spawn a set of spin-off stories, similar to how Spearbreakers did.

Ok, grabbing the save now. I was hoping to be able to play around with a slightly less on-the-brink-of-extinction fort, but oh well :P

EDIT: this is my first succession fort and OHARMOKWHATTHEHFS.

Oh. Dude, I'm so sorry. You should've played an easy fortress like Murdermachines first...

Haha no worries, I'm pretty good at fortress mode if I may say so myself, but I normally just plan my entire fort out before my first unpause :P This is a nice challenge, and I think I can get this fort organised within a year. Maybe :)

Sorry for doublepost but... here goes my my tour /ooc

The fortress is starting to look back on track! The goblins have gone... we're beginning to forge with magma... everything is looking great! All thanks to Escondida. If only we could've -

"SKULLSPLODER WAKE UP!"
"Wha?"
"You're the new overseer!"
"But the last one's still got another season before the end of her term!"
"The last overseer's term ended today.
"What?"
"JUST GET OUT THERE AND DO SOME OVERSEEING! GET RID OF THE GOBLINS AND SHIT!"
"..."
"GO!"

Godsdammit, must have been a dream.

Journal of Overseer Skullsploder
1st Moonstone 131

I could retch. I have to see the rest of this place, but the walk from my room to my meagre forge to the dining room is pukeworthy enough as it is. Armok save me.

Well, the whole fort is a shambles. What else can you expect from this grand tradition of having a completely new leader with a completely different plan every single year?

First they show me the trade depot... where a bunch of dwarves are trapped with no way off, because some genius of a dwarf mined out the floor around it. I order a clay "bridge" built immediately. I also notice that the depot walls to the outside have holes in them. Great, bring some more clay.

Next I'm shown the animal pens. Peafowl. Wonderful. And a goblin. There is a goblin inside an unsealed room in the fortress. I order the... two... marksdwarves to feather him while he's still unconscious. Our military has 2 men. I'll have to fix that.

I'm shown the farms and I'm not impressed. Less than half our lackluster farming space is dedicated to food, AND WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH FOOD. So, on the logic of food>clothes, I've ordered all dimple cups and pig tails to be replaced by plump helmets, at least until our food situation is slightly better.

I've seen most of the rest many times before, but we do a more comprehensive tour of the catacombs - not nearly enough coffins down there - and take a look at the caverns. BY ARMOK I thundered at my guide when I realised that there were open holes to the caverns - no drawbridge or anything. I immediately ordered those holes patched up with whatever stone available.

Finally, we take a look at the depths. My measly single magma forge and smelter, and... and a room whose floor is a magma flow. Huh. Well, looks like its time the smith was in charge, I'll have this fort producing tonnes of the finest steel in no time!

2nd Moonstone 131

I've ordered a much larger area dug out for use in forging and smelting. My plan is to establish a metalworking industry based on those useless weapons and armour those goblins bring. But we'll never get enough coal to do that on the surface, so to the depths it is!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
13 smelters and 13 forges. What could go wrong?

Since we're not going to need the forges up top anymore, I've ordered that room to be expanded so that we can use it for crafting.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

While I was up there, I noticed how segmented and disorganised our kitchens are. That'll be fixed in no time. Just apply open-plan architecture liberally.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As for the goblins, well, we simply don't have the manpower or equipment to do anything about them. We'll have to just wait them out. With the food we're buying from the traders and our farms starting to produce something useful, waiting here shouldn't be a problem.
