Roll to: Life in a biosphere
« on: January 29, 2014, 08:03:38 pm »

All of earth is doomed. The last years of the sun are coming, and huge tendrils of condensed heat are beginning to form out of it- some are on collision courses with earth. All the humans could do were select 30 different biomes they wish to survive, and then blast them off in huge, glass covered biospheres, to the neighboring solar system. Then, massive spaceships shalt launch and take the rest of humanity there to start anew. Or so they thought. 5 massive ships blasted off, but only 3 arrived in the new home of humanity. 1 exploded after a huge tendril swept through it and destroyed it, and the other passed behind a planet, and vanished forever- they transmitted hastily that the planet's gravity was pulling them in. Only 23 of the biospheres ever arrived. 5 were documented exploding along with the spaceship caught by the tendril- another was pulled away by the force of a planet's gravity, and the last, a duplicate of a forest, was flung away from the tendril, spinning, and is now drifting out there, uninhabited forever. Or so humanity thought. But the ship that exploded managed to send off 3 escape pods, each carrying 3 people before it was destroyed. These 9 survivors were incredibly talented people, who would make a huge contribution to society- however, they were knocked away by the tendril, and barely avoided crashing into the bio-dome drifting away- instead, they managed to dock and  get a way in. Their pod then drifted away, leaving them stranded in a bio-dome, simulating a perfect forest, including metals under the ground, real trees, and over 2 miles worth of just perfect woodlands with little lakes dotted in. You are one of the 9 people. Which one are you, though?

Possible professions:
Scientist
Engineer
Carpenter
Mason
Crafter
Mechanic
Medic
Politician
Psychologist
Miner
Priest
Lumberjack
Technician

And, of course, one of the people sent out was the captain. (First person to ask to be captain gets it)

Mechanics:
Captains can order people to do stuff, whether they do it or not is up to them.
All the professions (Including captain) can do whatever action they want, but if they have the proper tools, they will not receive a negative bonus. However, if you try to create a spaceship out of nothing, you autofail, and if you try to mine a rock with fists, you get a -2. If the task you are doing is related to your career, then you get a +1. I will roll a D6 for all normal actions, but some very select options I will roll a D20 for.

Hm. Must have edited after I clicked.

Name: Carl Anderson
Age: 44
Profession: Captain
Short biography of life: Captain Anderson began his career as an engineer on a small mining ship, making his way up to captain before quitting and moving onto bigger ships. He's been in space more than on any one planet, has been an officer for some ship or another most of his life, and hence was thought to be an ideal captain for this venture.
Physical condition: Alright
Likes: Technology, Order
Dislikes: Vandals, Criminals, Idiots

Name: Irene Yumira
Age: 14
Profession: Mechanic
Short biography of life: A self-trained mechanic who worked in a garage while her mother was away at work. She spends a lot of time alone or with animals, and her mother does not think she has a bright future due to her handicap. She has Phthalo-blue hair and eyes with pale skin. She normally wears a cap and jacket to match her blue theme. She wished for a long time to be in space, and now she finally can live that dream.
Physical condition: Weak legs. Can walk, but uses a wheelchair or a cane to reduce the pain.
Likes: The outdoors, tinkering, machinery, animals, children, creativity.
Dislikes: Rigidness, perfection, the cold, insects, water (not drinking water), time.

Name: Jacob Hill
Age: 28
Profession: Scientist
Short biography of life: Grew up with a love of science and a dislike for other people. He excelled in class and was admitted into an ivy league university. He majored in, and eventually got a PHD in Biology. He has never been one to take a risk or spend time around others, but the only thing more dangerous than leaving the earth, on obviously frail and insufficient ships no less, was not doing so.
Physical condition: Tall, mediocre physique.
Likes: sci-fi movies, games, biology
Dislikes: laborious tasks, risk-taking, society

((alright, so I admit he's a bit of a Gary Stu, but there's a reason my name is scientist. Also, I couldn't really be a mason with my name being scientist; I would be confused.))

Added to waitlist

Also, in interest of saving time, no reserving- if you don't have your character sheet up, and the ninth player does put it up, you don't quite get in.

Name: Hans Weissaugen
Age: 36
Profession: Carpenter
Short biography of life: The son of a well-known adventurer and survivalist, Hans studied architecture in the early years of his life, moving away from his native country. As a student, he was involved in various protests and anti-government demonstrations. After finishing his education, he went to travel the world, building wooden houses everywhere people would pay him for it. He was famous in some circles - his creations were declared the revival of traditional wooden architecture. He is a tall man with a long black braid of hair and several small silver rings in his ears.
Physical condition: Tough as heck. He's not exceptionally strong, but can go on little food, sleep, or basic amenities for miles and miles. Rather agile.
Likes: Solitude, sincerity, cloudy weather, functional things.
Dislikes: Authority, orders, gaudiness and overdecoration, being in crowded places.

Name: John Westings
Age: 37
Profession: Lumberjack

Short biography of life: John was a Canadian lumberjack, and was damn good at his job. The company that hired him ended up firing five others because of how good at cutting timber he was. John, feeling responsible for this, volunteered to go on the Bio Dome experiment, and has pangs of depression that cuts through his normally cheery demeanor.

Physical condition: Tough as nails, which he eats for breakfast. What else to you suspect from a lumberjack? He's not very fast, but can wrestle a bear into submission. This strength comes with a negative, however, since he can eat like a Russian racehorse.

Likes: Honesty, hard work, rewarding labor, fairness, friendly competition
Dislikes: dishonesty, deceit, weaklings, not getting his fair share
