"Predestination is a fools- Wait. Are you sure you know what you are doing with this?" Erden said, his eyes widening in confusion, as he focused on trying to comprehend Mr. Johnson's advice. (15+3=18...) Mr. Johnson's tutoring was making the concept make even less sense than usual. The book was mocking him, taunting him and his lack of understanding. He groaned audibly. This math was rapidly becoming absolute hell.

Mr. Johnson frowns.
"I can't believe you don't get this. I mean, this is simple compared to making laser beams that end at the right spot and turning diamonds into obsidian."

"Hardly. Geology is not horribly difficult to understand. While I don't fully understand the concept of lasers-" Suddenly his eye cocked in indignant confusion. "Why would anyone want to convert a diamond into obsidian? Diamonds are precious and obsidian is simple to obtain. Your endeavor to convert diamonds to obsidian makes no sense in the slightest because of that."

"Obsidian can be used to create very sharp swords and if you convert them from diamond they retain how hard it is to make them dulled."

"Then it is no longer obsidian or a diamond." said Erden bluntly. "Obsidian is often characterized by it's sharpness and brittle nature. Once it loses those characteristics, it changes in a way where it is no longer the same stone. To suggest otherwise is a bit ignorant I'm afraid."

Erden crossed his arms in defiance. Math and science could always be his weakest subjects, but he knew what he was talking about when the subject turned to rocks.

"Then it would be some kind of a... combination of diamond and obsidian?"
Mr. Johnson smiles at Erden.

Enki lurks in the library, looking at various books while keeping an eye on the men with Aoi.

"Yes... Perhaps like a metallic alloy, where two metals fuse and gain new properties as well. Stones do this as well in the form of metamorphic rocks; rocks changed by pressure and heat beneath the Earth. But I have never heard of this particular method..." Erden gave the subject a hand wave. He had seen stranger sights at this school already. Questioning how new rocks could be created by diamonds and technology was not worth his time considering all the other mysteries that seemed to envelop this school like a black fog.

"You sound like you're close to understanding part of basic physical sciences."

"I could go further on the subject, but I would not wish to distract myself from what I don't know, but must know. Like this... Monstrosity" He spat, gesturing towards the book. However as he looked back past the head of Mr. Johnson, he spotted the familiar form of Enki. It felt odd that he should be seeing him all over the place where he least expected him to be. (15+13)

But he was not able to put two and two together, so Erden continued his studies instead. Enki was likely just like him; a man trying to study. Yes. Studying after all is the only reason people visited the library.

Mr. Johnson points out looking over the tome.

"I would not be surprised if I was..." Erden mused as his eyes closed. "But... I don't think I would have been put into this class at all if I could not learn to succeed in it. So I must try."

"Then put this back and go find one on something that is just above what you are knowledgeable in. We can work our way up from there."
Mr. Johnson is in full teacher mode.

"Nonsense, it just a matter of reviewing the material." Erden pulled a planner out of his Tunic of Holding. The fragile paper book was foreign in his hand, but he felt it's worth. As he began flipping through the pages to his first assignment for the class, he addressed Mr. Johnson further. "If I have been asked to review this page then review this page I shall. I will not lower myself to working on a lesser assignment. It's just a simple matter of-" His voice choked to a complete stop and his face turned red.
