Long strands of white hair fall slowly to the ground, twisting in the soft subterranean breeze. The false mirror is limned in faerie fire, lighting the rest of the room in the infrared spectrum to your sensitive eyes. You stroke the brush again, shaking loose a few more loose strands of hair, like gossamer spider silk. They cross on the floor beneath you, a dry web with no glue.
Outside, the sounds of Menzoberranzan quietly muffle themselves into the softest whisper your elfin ears can hear. You live just off the market, a fine spot for your station, perhaps too fine, but made up for in the low quality of your estate. The house Dear'Nethal has not, in all the history of it's existence, risen above 45th in rank among the other houses, and lately it has fallen on harsh times. The brief reprieve of the last decade has barely allowed you to clean your corridors of moldering corpses and broken debris.
But it has allowed you to reach the age of importance. It is today you will go to Arach-Tilinith. Today you will begin a journey that could make or break your house. Your mother, your sister, and your brothers are all counting on you. You are the last female left to go; Matron Dezire, in her age, will bear no more children. It is only a matter of time before your sister takes the reigns of the House; and she is not the priestess she needs to be. But you might change that...
Will your family be shaped by Strength of Arm? Will it be shaped by Strong Magic, the great Mystery? Can you be the Redeemer in the eyes of Lloth, to show the Spider Queen her lost house has not abandoned her? Are you strong enough to stand the Trials of the Underdark, and resurrect your fallen house?
A) There's a knock on my door. I take up the blade by my side and open it, my footsteps clanking like a humans in my plate armor.
B) There's a knock on my door. I mentally recite the opening lines to a minor cantrip without saying them aloud.
C) There's a knock on my door. I stand from my altar and slide the ceremonial dagger into the holster at the small of my back. Always cautious in the world of the Spider Queen.
{Updates will be somewhat sporadic, but I believe I can maintain this game, though I'm going to need to take a brief hiatus soon. I might be able to post during that time in any case.}
