Yes, but there's a difference in that at least with those things you can control your helplessness, this is the equivalent of a game forcing you down a certain path and you not even getting to play it.
That's why I'm advocating prior-warning before deployment being mandatory. Because it means that it becomes possible to exercise control over the situation, set yourself up and position yourself so that you force the game to take a path you want, even if you aren't directly controlling yourself for that turn.
Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that, unless you kill yourself before hand and maybe not even then, you're not controlling your character for one or more turns.

I mean, it's not a railroad. Even without Green Storm, Steve really could just fry your brain to death. Like, perma-death. Poof, gone. And you're complaining now that the implant is a problem? That's a little silly. And, over the course of its existence (The entire goddamn game) it has been used a total of one time. To destroy a creature two AoW's can't kill. And, I believe, it was requested that Steve do something to help kill that goddamn thing, so it was asked for, in a sense.
It was asked for I will concede, but not by the people who it was used on. And having something that instantly kills your character for real is bad but PW finds that he needs it, and with good reason. He doesn't need to control the players directly at any point.

As I said, you retain control of your character, your character is just not in control of anything.

My character was Green Stormed into permadeath.  But I still support it OOC.  IC, Pneuma is shocked and unhappy at the prospect of becoming a meat puppet.

I don't particularly mind the prospect. At the same time, Xan's violently opposed to the concept because he's excessively self-centered.

...Isn't xan implant-free, considering you're like fifth-generation clone?

I think they put in a new implant when they took away his powers.

Ah, you're back.  How... pleasant.  I'll transfer the tokens and Nyars artifact now.

Correct, it's been an exciting few months.  Exciting and regretful.

In any case, I can't help but hold a slight grudge all the same.  I'm sure I'll get over it eventually (probably after this character dies).

Suppose I might as well add my whining to the cacaphony.

Saint likes Green Storm.  For him, it has no possible negative effect aside from possibly forcing him to make a heroic sacrifice, which he deems as both highly unlikely and worth the risk.

syvarris intensely hates Green Storm.  For him, it cheapens the game and greatly lowers risk in a lot of situations.  Someone made a stupid decision and we're all gonna die?  Green storm, let's get out of here.  Extremely powerful opponent which we feel like we stand no chance against?  Green Storm.  No creativity to it, and it puts a cap on how much risk we can have before we autowin.

It also makes whatever happens less interesting.  The guy who made the heroic sacrifice against the AoP?  Just an arbitrary decision, really.  Yes, it causes PW to suddenly jump in descriptive detail, but he's just arbitrarily deciding upon and describing the best result possible, and at that point, why's he need players?

Lastly, it makes no sense in-universe.  Steve can possess our brains, risking brain damage...  Wait, a small implant can control how the entire brain thinks, so that it can interact with amps and such?  With zero lag or interference?  Why can't a sod/Steve can't just possess the body of a CON specialist?  Possessing the brain carries no benefit, and would make things slower and less efficient.  And of course, if Steve can green storm people, why is he even using us?  Why doesn't he just send a bunch of sods and possess all of them?  Their lack of connection to origin wouldn't be a problem anymore, and he could always mix in humans if he really needed origin tech.

So yeah.  It doesn't add anything to the game, in my opinion, and doesn't make sense in-universe.  Why does it exist?  Because piecewise doesn't tend to think intensely hard about his ideas.

Well, (and here I'm in agreement with Maurice, though he is more convinced than me) we're just big social engineering project for Steve. Think Wunderkinder, only on galactic scale, and far with more "hands-off" approach.

And there's even a very easy way to test this hypothesis: Wait until Steve replies in the trial thread. If I'm correct, he'll have a use for Maurice (maybe a different one that the proposed one, but still). If he doesn't have any special use for Maurice, that hypothesis is incorrect. That simple. ;D
