But ozarck, being in its mouth gives you easier access to stabbing it in the brain.

@Ozarck
Well, there is mindfuck, and there is mindfuck. I'd like to point out that in case of reality acid, it's not certain if there is a guiding agency behind it, or if it is passive effect (like the visual distortion of the dome in M21). As such, it might not be completely fair comparison - you cannot mindfuck-back a math textbook, unlike a math professor (even though the latter has a greater capability of straight-mindfucking you in the first place, a seeming contradiction).

Just wanted to point that out, not to argue or anything.

You're using metaknowledge and/or hindsight 20/20 to judge him. If you encounter a hostile mental influence during a mission, then trying to fight it is the best thing you can do is fight it. Even the AM says that. Given that he was dealing with mindfuck, he would have no way of knowing what's really going on and if he can win or not.

That's why I would had liked being a lawyer in that trial. I could speak for my client, sush him when he says something we haven't rehearsed, claim that he is in a bad mental state and thus his last  statement should be ignored by the jury, make closing statements...
I'm using two posts to judge by, if I am judging at all, and not making amusing comments for their own sake: the one in which the entity is described as "bigger than the universe", and the one in which Maurice responds, not exactly by fighting or resisting, but by going "mine" and embracing it.

Were m26 to do the same with the mindfuck acid from an alien universe, we would all have had melted heads and be dead. instead, we resisted, and two of us managed to resist out of it and rescue the rest, while a third resisted via drugs. None of us looked at the acidwalls and said "know what, think I'll keep it."

There's fighting, and there's leaping willingly into it's mouth.
First: When you're dealing with mindfuck, you can't be certain about what you're seeing. All you can really know is that you are being mindfucked. For example, how can someone know something is bigger than the universe? It's a scale meaningless to humans. There are no nearby universes he can compare the Lurker to. So it's really just something in your mind, an idea, possibly implanted by a hostile force. Taking it as absolute truth might be foolish, might be even exactly what the entity implanting it wants you to do. For example, see mission 24: Because he trusted images the Thermophage sent to his head, Christopher ended up doing exactly what it wanted and released it to the Sword.
Second: Different situations. You were dealing with an effect, not an entity.
Third: That's a matter of perspective. From my perspective, he simply chose to fight it aggressively rather than defensively. Morul seems to have been the one who chose to embrace it (or sacrifice himself to it to save the others, depending on how you look at it).

Sigh, it took a while for these claims to pop up. You might notice I'm mostly using what he said because he did a good job at being sincere enough to screw himself over. When you're under mindfuck, you try to fight the thing off, or get yourself to safety, while Maurice is basically saying "I entered a contest of wills to master it instead of trying my best to escape". It's the difference between trying to swim away from a maelstrom - which also requires strength - or towards it to show who's boss.

Besides, the whole thing isn't over yet.

That, or (to preserve the metaphor) swimming away from a sea monster vs. or towards it. While you cannot kill a maelstrom, but you theoretically can attempt to kill a sea monster. Even though you have nothing but fists, and the monster is giant, aquatic and has extremely sharp teeth.

And yeah, I'm sincerely looking forward to Milno's comments on the matter. :)

Any particular reason your MkIII couldn't be sent to Kedly immediately, NAV? The Sword is in the Heph system currently, IIRC.

Also, we have enough people to create an additional newb team and an extra vet team. I'm gonna ask pw if he prefers the extra teams or would rather have the existing ones be larger.
Pw said yes to new newb team, but no new vet team. Added it to wiki, just took the newest sign-ups and added into 1 team. Don't have the time or energy to do the whole team balancing bit again for 15 people over 3 teams though, so you guys might wanna check if people should switch to ensure balance. Just remember to keep teams equally big.

Stingy radio is stingy.

Matter savers have many tactical uses that arent limited to just increasing firepower.
Like smuggling things, or containing artifacts, or silently breaching locks, or stealing computers, or silent assasinations, or abducting brains for later interrogation, or preventing bombs from exploding in your face, or launching pancaek spears at the enemy commander, or robbing banks, or carrying around a pocket black hole...
They probably do, it's more that Auron already has enough high end gear to be able to hold his own, so he doesn't really need the team fund's help. Besides, M24 pay was announced, so just go buy it yourself.

@Irony

Note that you can get a full refund for all origin-tech items.  Pancaek had a whole bunch of stuff, so he got fifty tokens and used it to buy a mythril covered white mask, making him nearly invulnerable.  You could refund your synthflesh body and use it to get a Heavy Robotic Body (which is arguably superior to your old body), and have five tokens left over.  I'm not suggesting this just because it will get me paid four tokens, but admittedly that is a motivation.
Definitely noted, though I'm not sure if I'd be able to berserk in a robody. Also it has a kinamp in each fist anyway.

Quote
I should do that!
Is that an official sign-up?
Absolutely! Now appears to be the time.

Quote
It's a very nice club and a very nice body, you see.
You can probably keep the body as long as you don't 'overdo' it, but I'd lose the kinamp if I were you.

Actually, what's with people and the fear of kin-amps these days? I mean, sure, it's Origin tech, and unstable one, but it doesn't seem to be able of summoning Lurker or something. All its corruption does is randomise it's power exponentiation level. (And then, I believe that it was once tested that kin-amps cannot actually decrease the force output, only increase, so there isn't even danger of it nerfing your weapon to nothingness - but there is still chance that it might go beyond mere squaring.)

In short, I think as long as you know the risks, and Steve trusts you, you can easily keep the kinamp-related equipment (and, if you are lucky with dice, might even find it a better offer than before). Am I missing something?
Well, you do only get as much uses as your uncon/exo score indicates, and a kinamp is still a manipulator, so it counts towards that limit afaik. And that club has multiple of them, so 1 strike might put you over the limit already.
@RC I... don't think it's a manipulator? I mean, it doesn't even use anyone's brains for that (as far as we know). All Piecewise had to say on the matter of kinamps was (copied from the Armory):

>"Kinetic amps seem to be unaffected for the large part but their outputs are more difficult to guess now, and can often be under or overpowered. "

Though I looked up the quote and it seems uncertain whether the number of uses limit for "space magic" is strictly for amps/manips, or for other kinds of magic as well.
We should probably ask Piecewise for clarification and update/not update the Armory page explanation.
I dunno Nik, you'd have to ask in the poke thread. Either way, wouldn't hurt to hold fast to the cautionary principle in any case, and she can buy new toys with the refund money.

Check the wiki thread U_P, xan asked the same. Basically, I'm waiting for pw to aprove of the payments, waiting for a pm from him. Hopefully later today he'll get on and answer.

Why would you need a matter saver as mission equipment though?
This is indeed a really important distinction. And yet none of you have asked about it, or if you did it was on IRC. I shall promptly ask about it in the poke thread.

You could get a ghost blade if it's able to survive your synthflesh using it while Hallelujahing, after all, it can go straight through armor and scales with your physical strength, which is utterly monstrous. Just jump around using your agile body and shank everyone to death.
Also an option!

Going over the supervet teams, our targets could not possibly have been terrible enough people to deserve this.
