I'm asking PW if we can run the portal machine in the apocalypse lab (Which is either on an asteroid, or in a lagrange point--I forget), because stuff like this is exactly what it was built for.  If PW vetos that, we probably aren't allowed to have it somewhere else.  Also, while turning it on just to make sure it's safe makes sense, I highly doubt it would be useful--if merely turning it on would destroy everything nearby, there wouldn't be much of a mission.

Still, Saint isn't going anywhere near that thing until somebody else has gone in and come back safely.
Sure. Piecewise is unlikely to insta-kill you. But there will probably be rolling involved. Meaning there's the chance that something comes out of that portal before you get to send something in.

Though, personally, I'd just wait at the portal, activate it, send a hamster, some scout eyes and a modded gunner bot in to take samples and photos from around the portal and then go through the portal myself to meet the locals and have some fun exploring. There's no need to overcomplicate things, unless piecewise wants this mission to be so strategic and planning-heavy.

Edit: Another question you could ask: Are you aiming at land (somehow) or are you going to have a to have a spaceship ready?

Edit2: Since you'll be exploring new worlds and meeting new creatures, have some appropriately alien pictures: http://monsterbrains.blogspot.fr/2015/11/illustrations-from-walt-mcdougalls-good.html?m=1

I fail to see how...

invincible structure + nukes = Krillin trying to punch Frieza.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

Anyone know where the "High Guard" armor came from, or what it looks like?

I can't find that much information about high guards or their armour. There was a fight against them in Mission 10 starting here. I improved the armoury's description based on that.

@High Guard Armor
I think High Guard armor is worn by Arbiters? Or something like that (Piecewise said something like that at some point later). It requires heavy body modification to be properly equipped and worn, that I remember clearly.

@Apocalypse Lab
It's situated on Hephaestus-XI, the outermost planet of Hephaestus system. And yeah, this kind of testing is exactly what it was built for.

You sure? I thought Arbiters (what we fought on mission 22) and High Guards (wearing the armor of the same name, and encountered during M10) were completely separate entities.

Hence the emphasis on 'think'. I recall that, but it doesn't seem to fit the facts...

High guard armor is an advanced version of the elite police forces armor I think.

I fall face first onto the floor.

((I don't recommend doing that. I lost my teeths and didn't get them back before dying first. Dental plan sucks here.))

I can attest to that.
