Of course, using a coldspike gives us the same problems as the MK-1, if someone breaks the coldspike or punctures the suit so as to expose the coldspike to the wearer, they either die of hyperthermia or get flash frozen, which won't be fun.
If that happens, Something Bad is already happening.
Also *hypothermia, hyperthermia would be overheating.
But maybe coldspike dust?
Nah, Hyperthermia, if the coldspike is broken, then the suit can't vent heat anymore.
Oh, coldspike, not the containment on.  My bad.
Wouldn't the existing vent systems take back over?
in my upgrade item yes, unless they were damaged too.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

There isn't a vent system, the existing cooling system on the MK1 is a pair of gigantic fins on the back, and on the MCP1 just radiates heat evenly by being thin and skintight.

Then you need better fins.

The fins work fine, they just detonated like a grenade if you hit them too hard.

IIRC the issue isn't that they're explosive, it's that for some reason they stop conducting heat if hit, so the heat the suit generates boils you instantly.

Ah, here we go, from the original ER thread:
"Also, that suit has a heat exchange coil on the back. Don't go touch it or pressing it on anything. Touch that thing to some ice in Near Absolute zero conditions and it will be like a grenade going off just behind your head. "

It's not instant. It's just your own body heat builds up inside a perfectly thermally sealed environment and you boil yourself.

Emphasis on "ice in Near Absolute zero conditions". Hitting them with a normal round isn't going to have the same effect; because the explosion was caused by the cold, not the actual blow. Just about anything will explode if it experiences a rapid decrease of ~300° Celsius.

Rapid increase of temperature, not decrease. Otherwise it would be implosion instead of explosion.

Well, it's two-way, actually. In the original Forever War book, which Piecewise drew inspiration from (and our suits come from almost unchanged ;) ), there was a special mention to what happens if you touch with those fins, say, gas ice in Near-Absolute Zero temperature - the ice thaws, then boils, and expands, all under split second, effectively mimicking the explosion of a grenade with the forces of the gas expanding. (I.e. - it's not the fins exploding, but you'd wish it were!) Since a lot of conflict in the book apparently happened on such planets (and our game was also intended to), it was a major concern included in the basic training course.

Now, however, different thing happens if your Mk I suit fins become disabled somehow. Your suit cannot radiate heat anymore, and, as Piecewise described it, you slowly boil inside your suit. M-mmm, Milno-cuisine.
(Unlike the first thing it can happen just anywhere, and is not dependent on there being ice. All it requires is an accident and, thankfully, now obsolete suit with vulnerable fins.)

I think it's kinda like that time mythbusters exploded ice with thermite: https://youtu.be/w6cMmk8LZgQ
Heat something up quickly enough and the rapid expansion of gasses is like an explosive going off.

May I have better fortune than the previous owner of these items.

That should be easy - just getting off the Paracelsus' Sword to you first mission in one piece would be a success.

10 kiloton nukes are pretty epic. It's like running around with a hiroshima bomb.

Requisition a strong acid, say Hydrogen Chloride in a treated, reinforced tank. I'm not carrying that thing in a glass bottle.

On the other extreme end of the corrosive substance spectrum, we could try Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide), in a specially prepared and reinforced tank as well.

Okay, actual chemist here.

Firstly, you can actually contain HCl of any concentration in a glass container, even if it is not proper chemically enhanced glass. It would never quite get through it. It is safe to carry a sealed glass vessel in your pocket. Same goes for strong sodium hydroxide solution.

Secondly, just get yourself some liquefied ClF3 for all your chemical destructive needs - given low temperatures at the mission site, you can pour it all over things - it will be still liquid, if not frozen solid, at low enough temperatures and react with about everything your initial compounds would, I believe. It is quite good that we have this stuff available by Word of God.

If you can keep it cold and contained, O2F2 is another horrible monster of a chemical.  It might even overcome our magical ChemOffTM.
