The big problem is that I don't think communication is possible with it. It's alien, after all.

Then again, indeed, dance off is culture/species-transcendent.

It's simple. He's got people holding hands and dancing in circles. Make a similar circle and start dancing counter-clockwise! He will be confused and unable to choose a circle. Thus his ritual will fail. Problem solved!

Besides, a 6 in a speech roll is also universal and all-powerful. It's proof that everyone in the HMRC is a wizard: They can alter reality merely by speaking and making gesture (or even merely attempting to do so.).

My bet is that "thing" is the ER universe's God, part of it, at least, while the thing possessing the body is a god from another universe, using that space to set itself to this universe's rules, that's why the black suddenly turned into magical glass, in the ER universe, that combination of atoms doesn't work, so it just vanishes.
