Kinda the same thing as with STAN really - when I ate Stacy's brain I didn't actually intend to absorb it, only to incubate it inside my body while I built a new one around him.
But same as with that, the action of taking a brain inside my body was enough to activate STAN, just as mentioning the Doom Arms is enough to get the End dice rolling.

I say the team fund chips in and buys Mr. Doomarms there a VERY well insulated battlesuit. So that at the very least his teammates will have a chance to run, when he does die.

Problem, even the most well insulated suits can still be broken through with enough oomf, and my guess is that at maximum power, that doom arm's energy output is only gonna be limited by the fact that electricity can't inhabit the same space as more electricity.
