You can probably use the VR after the missions are gone. PW has said he'd like to minimize non-mission chatter until they're in their own thread

Still better than my attempts. >.>
True, he isn't testing them on himself.
Oh hey, that was just about when I entered the game!
Man my motivations were different back then.

EDIT:Looked it up, Unholy_Pariah, kj1225, and renegade lobster all volunteered for an MMI.  So I guess one of them gets the assaultsuit, unless Radio decides to give the MMI to someone else.  I will enjoy watching him make that decision.

Wot? You'll enjoy seeing your stuff be unusable because someone makes a mistake? That's weird yo. Either way, 2 of these are blops, and the other hasn't said he wants to try the suit.

Thanks for writing it up, I'll quickly show the council... but for the assault suit, I'm not entirely sure if it's wise to bring that now, because I'd be very surprised if that thing doesn't end up having any stat requirements. Waithing for 1 batch would allow you to fully work it out without time pressure. Though maybe pw will answer in the council. Same for robobody, by the way (though nobody has applied for one of these either, strangely enough. Maybe you should advertise or something?)

For the record:

Assaultsuits, the walking tanks that dominate our battlefields,
I find it hilarious you claim this... about a piece of untested tech that hasn't seen a single battlefield yet! Such confidence, much wow.

Quote
If you need the full list of features, I can go digging through my post history to find them.
Sorry for asking it, but yeah, that'd be convenient. Just make a page for each item and copy paste it there, so at least pw know everything he needs to know if they end up being used.

Quote
On medical equipment: Wait, aren't we providing the med supplies I recommended (2x "1 E-kit, 1 medifoam can" + fleshknitter prototypes) to the team medics, as the bare minimum for increased survival chances? (At least, since the recommendation was accepted rather than rejected.) That was the idea I had in mind when I talked about issuing equipment, after all. That is what my designation is all about.

Yes we are, just checking if our designated medic that isn't a newbie might be willing/capable of buying it herself. Apparently not, so team fund will help out. Me, a penny pincher? Why I'd never!

Quote
The battlesuit, to my knowledge, was discounted because it now requires +2 AUX.  Neither the assaultsuit nor the HRB would likely get that discount, because they're both directly hooked to the user's brain, and therefore wouldn't be unintuitive to operate.

A big reason for it was also that pw didn't want people to be able to get the high-end gear from the get-go just by earning tokens quickly. So while the stat restrictions might not be as high as for a battlesuit, I'd be surprised if there were none. It could, for example, now be +1 aux and +1 something else (maybe exo, to reflect being able to use an MMI?)

Quote
We'll probably end up having the 'standard' assault suit be operated with the old system, and have the AUX requirement, but have an option to get a more expensive version with the MMI.  That should work.

Maybe, but you need to get that worked out with pw really. Taking this into account... would it be a terrible problem if we took the assault suit off of the current prototypes list, and just go with the heavy robobody for now? So you have time to finish it up in more detail.

Quote
Oi! Which one of you newbies wants to give up your body for !!SCIENCE!! and possibly powers or increased abilities for a bit?

Please don't do that now, I don't feel like changing our team roster again twelve times because you incapacitated newbs through testing nyartifacts. Do it on your own mission people, or peeps not going on mission, but not mine.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

@RC: I still want that plasma stabby thing if nobody else wants it. Should I ask IC?

Are nuerophotinic spinal columns still a thing?
Nope. Not until piecewise finds a new use for them. If he put them in with the same stats they had before they'd be like a permanent chance for dynamic bonus for all stats, making it too powerful.

@RC Ah, sure. Sorry for near-panicking.

On Assaultsuits: I see no reason why battlesuits should be priced differently based on "skill/stat requirement" and not on resource distribution; the resource distribution was, by design, equal for assaultsuit, so the price should be the same. It's not the "price reduced because stats", it's "price reduced all across the board; oh, and they all have stat reqs".
Now, assaultsuit has the MMI pre-requisite, which is one thing to consider. Another, I believe that Aux requirement should remain or, at most, be reduced - it's not that we're not commanding an immense behemoth of a machine, it's that we're doing so more efficiently now (less lag, more precise control, etc.).

On MMI: Honestly, I think it should be Mind. Exo is too rash and weirdshit (all the amps and xenos tech and all), whereas Aux might suffice, but is still a skill. Using MMI is more of ability, like dexterity and strength (both fit here because it's "dexterity of mind" and "strength of mind" that are to be put to test with MMI) - not a specific skill to do things. It's just the same as operating a computer mouse or a touchpad - it takes some learning, yes, but in the end it's more about the user's response time, manual dexterity and all that rather than some kind of "operating finesse" which is tested to use.
Furthermore, we already know that Mind is used to operate the mechanical addons for robobodies (it's the stat requirement for those) - and MMI uses exactly that sort of interaction as robo-brains do (as evidenced by brain-chatting and all). Thus, and because robobrains probably would not even need the MMI to operate stuff, I do not believe it should be put into any consideration.

On Heavy Robot Body: Seriously, it does not even require MMI. It's just dumbed down lighter variant of a battlesuit. It has to be cheaper, or there is no reason for its use.
(And yes, if it means that it takes +2 Aux to operate a machine of that complexity/size, then so be it. We need cheaper equipment, not one that can be used to circumvent stat reqs. They are there for a reason, as is the general price reduction across the board. )

MMI should be Exo and probably Aux too. It's literally controlling things with your mind. You don't get more exo than that. You are not simply controlling your body like you would with a normal robotic body.

@RC: Okay, I'll edit that.
Also, a suggestion. After doing the briefing, you could send a PM to everyone involved to give you a reply or post an action over the weekend, just so that we can confirm who's active. Unless you think it's too harsh for those who can't respond right now.

And the people who don't respond, do we throw them out? I'm not sure if that's my place to start a policy of kicking people off mission cause they're not active. What if they become active a week after we drop?

And if we don't throw them out, then what's the point? I guess we could invent a system where the community is allowed to take over a character if the player hasn't posted for x days. But such a system has its own possible problems. And in the end, do we wanna take things so seriously for what is, essentially, a game? Then again, braindeads take up space on a mission that culd go to someone else who might actually play and contribute, and have more fun with it.

As you can see, I've considered it at length before, but it's not as straightforward as it might seem. And, well, it mostly seems to work till now, so why change what's not unworkably broken? Or is that's just lazyness speaking?

But... how is it different from controlling things with your mind when you're just a brain in a jar? It is probably exactly the same, or very, very similar.

And, for the record, previously I'd agree that it might share traits with Exo. Now, however, with all the regular augmentations removed from Exo equipment category and moved to a separate one, with the ones remaining probably using some weird psychic/xenoorganic connection to your will (as the hive and the tentacle), I'd say against assigning MMI to Exo use. At least, for all we know, MMI is honest sciency tech, not something we adapted from a psychic eldritch alien artifact.
Though now that I think of it, maybe, just maybe, it could also be interesting to try and develop exactly that, operated with Exo - Psychic-Machine-Interface...

I could see it make sense both ways, exo or mind. I'd think mind would be better, seems most balanced (eg people with exo as weapon stat don't have an advantage).

Well...so. I've got 576 of these little polished button looking things, with a decently sized hypodermic needle on one side. I don't know what they do, but they do something. I think. Probably will be good. Probably. They might be a type of super battle stim. Or not. Dunno. Wanna try one?

IC, I probably wouldn't consent to that. That being said, I don't mind if you inject Irling against his will.

No, nothing that harsh. It's not like braindead people following the group around hurt in any way. Just give any mission equipment they have to others and rebalance the teams.

And it is actually more balanced to have it as an Exo requirement. Remember, one of the reasons piecewise put those stat requirements there so that not everybody can get 1 after 3 missions. Everyone puts points in mind, it's one of the most useful stats. However, consider an exotic specialist. He has some exo weapons but mostly focuses on amps and thus has plenty of mind points. Now he has to put some points in aux and give up one of his brain slots for the MMI. Same for someone with con or uncon but for exo. You are essentially forcing them to multiclass and have to roll something other than dex to control their body, same as the MK3s and the battlesuits, only instead of using aux to fly they're using exo. But since exo is more useful for an exo specialist, you also force them to loose a brain slot. That way, it's simply a way to trade aux with exo (except for when you want to do actual programming or other computer stuff with your brain, that should still use aux).
