I've been thinking; what if we are all wrong about the brain-batteries and they are actually living lives full of happiness? It'd certainly make them more cooperative than full existential terror would, and then it's probably as simple as jamming a couple electrodes in the pleasure center of the brain (for a certain definition of 'happiness').
I can even see certain people volunteering for that kind of 'life'. No atrocities, no raids on population, no monstrous genetic experiments, just carefree lives of blissful pleasure and steady supply of volunteers.

If i put a sort of "Read Only" man machine interface in my manipulator and synced it to the one im gonna be testing, would that let me identify the level of strain on my battery brain?
