I reject all limitations on synthflesh and robobodies, mainly because it makes no sense that fleshy humans can be stronger than killbots and space berserkers... also because my character is one, but mainly because it makes no sense.

I also reject loss of stats during death, because newbies really dont need that handicap.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

And robot bodies suddenly becoming more resistant to damage or fatigue, how do you explain that? At least fleshy humans becoming silly strong can be explained away by saying they got gene treatments or something. Because if we wanna go fully logical, there are quite a few things that robot people could suffer from.

Though I concur that the second thing might be something that mainly screws those more probably to die (aka newer characters). Then again, that is how it used to be, and those people turned out alright.

Combat experience, you learn just how far you can push it and how to roll with the punches.

Also robobody muscle fibers could have some sort of resistance to movement that goes down over time, like breaking in a new pair of shoes.

First is very vague, and second entirely hypothetical. How far to push it if the subject is still capable to do stuff is most often up to the player to decide, the end rolls just determine when the body physically gives out. And a shot to the robogut should always have the same results, learning to bite through hardship and such would be will rolls.

To nerf robobodies, you could have major "organs" be occasionally hit during combat. Generator, brain-computer interface, limb servos, etc...

As they are right now, you could hack away at a robobody and it will keep fighting you right up until you get at the actual brain. Robobodies basically get rid of the temporary death state, when they should have just as many points of failure as fleshy bodies. You could outright lose the ability to make certain movements or such when you take damage; rather than muscling through pain with Willpower or adrenaline, you just completely lose the ability to use sections of your body until you get repaired. The braincase could possibly have a point of failure, as well, bringing back temporary death for non-fleshy characters.

Or maybe some better genemods that only humans can take.

I like this idea. It lets us keep robobodies and synthbodies more or less as they are, but also allows humans and the like to very high-potential upgrades, though I will say there are already some nice ones out there that nobody seems to buy. Though this could be because they're mostly included in synthbodies.

Short post!

Concerning the proposed new system: I like it, or at least I like the idea! I like it because it's sensible. Dummies can't make a quantum computer because they studied for 5 minutes (as PW kinda put it), and a master programmer shouldn't cause The Singularity because he rolled a 6+4 when writing a "Hello, World!" level program.

Concerning dynamic bonus: I'll agree that they're overused, definitely, and I am of the opinion that they should be required to be more specific than they are now. I also had a thought that maybe with the new system they could modify your "level" up by one instead of the roll. This would make it still helpful, and roll back the power of the bonus a bit (with no modifiers as the new system would have, a currently-implemented Dynamic bonus would give you half fives. That's kinda nuts and crazy powerful). What do you guys think?

Concerning stat gains and stats in flesh/robo/synthflesh bodies: I'd just handwave stat gains as a progression element and not think about it too much, or else it gets all weird and nit-picky. As an example, look at...any of the current missions, actually. Assuming they nailed it right now and the mission was complete, they'd receive stat boosts for shopping, eating, and walking respectively. The stats and improved abilities might not have been used at all and they still get better (perhaps significantly better) in the span of, what, a week? You could look at other types of progression systems but what we have now serves its purpose, as far as I'm concerned.

(I could get on board with a general balance pass for robo-bodies, like Radio alluded to. Normal robobodies seem to be very nearly straight upgrades in several categories and don't cost anything, right?)

Concerning "taking a 10": It could be okay, but AFAIK it couldn't be applied to any combat actions in D&D (it's been a while though, so feel free to keep me honest). So you could take a 10 to pick a lock or something but not to shoot a bow or roll a saving throw.

Concerning (potential) stat loss on temp-death:
If you want to go this route I might suggest that the victim simply gain less stats at mission competition instead of having existing stats removed. It's still a penalty but it doesn't make it feel like your character has taken a step backwards.

first pw needs to lift his biotech tinker ban for that. Once he does, I'm all on board for that (see cnidaria hands from before).

I generally agree that not taking away stuff from players might indeed be the best course of action. But then the question of fair balance for regular robobodies comes up, and how do we do that? I'd say letting them cost 5 tokens would be a good start (equals Mk.II in cost then, and means even someone who got killed 5 minutes into the mission isn't left stranded due to basic 5 token pay). Next to that, balancing through more vague things such as the one swordsmith proposed might also be a good thing.

PW, could tell us what kind of bonus the amp specialist would have had in the new system? Secondly, will mind point pools and such still work the same way, or not? As in, will every point invested give a higher pool, or only at +1 brackets?
