@Piecewise Out of curiosity, is it within the realm of practically possible for us to stop such overloads with counter-effect space magic, like the amp specialist did? Or is it something out of our weight class entirely? Actually, would he be able to cope with an overload at all?
And then, can an overload be canceled out (mostly) with another overload of opposite effect?

For !!SCIENCE!! !
It's possible. You could totally "Counter spell" them, but you'd have to know whats going on to counter it. Not always easy.

Now see I could, but I don't have an amp right now.
Ah well.

It might help if one didn't specifically design characters to create incidents like this..  ;-)

Sorry, mission folks. I'm about to blow up the ship I guess.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

When this kicks in just keep in mind that if not for Steve this would have happened at least 3 times on board thanks to me.

But you're a flesh horror, not a heat-bomb. Flesh-horrors have a little bit longer until they hit their critical point (unless it's a STAN event).

I guess microwave amps just go "boom". Always.

...Is that how ICE9 happened?

Also, if this goes off as big as I think it will, being a microwave amp, then I will have caused two events in a month. Sorry folks. I am bad at the ER.

Werent Ice-9 and China-9 errors though?
As in they tried doing something outside the scope of manipulator capability?

Heh. Maybe. But Denzel overshot an STAN and became a star himself. So.

@Unholy: I think the stasis tubes have disappeared and turned into a wall. Unless you mean you want to try punching through the wall.

Indeed. People are really being overly dramatic about these 6+2 rolls. They're not even a fraction of the danger of a proper overload.

For instance, a 6+2 by Stacy during the hunt for the amp specialist caused a fun explosion and dropped several tons of concrete on Grate. Somewhat alarming, but nothing too terrible, you understand. On the other hand, a 6+1 or something similar by Xan right before Ice-9 set an entire city neighborhood on fire at once, though that technically should be simpler to do than create sudden violent explosions by the application of heat alone, at least if one considers the temperature differences probably involved.

Most of you are probably going to be just fine, all things considered. The ship's got quite a lot of plot armor on it, don't you know, and plot armor (as in, how much piecewise feels like hurting you and the surrounding area to a ruinous degree) is the important factor when considering space magic overshooting, now that I think about it.
