20 intelligence.

God damn.
Well, I have one, and I can assure you it is worth the stat points. So many options, it's probably the most flexible weapon to date.

By the way guys, remember that a universal manip can do the stuff the other manips can, but it costs more mindpoints to do so because the manip is less specialised. So doing something will be less taxing on the user if (s)he is using a more specialised manip/amp.

Sooo, level up first? and then space magics? =3

Protip: if you haven't gone on a mission yet, you can still change your stat and skill points. Once you've had a mission (or done something requiring rolls on ship) you're stuck, so if you wanna be a spess magician, now's your chance (without needing to wait for level up, that is).

Also, if you buy something, you can resell to the armory for full price if it isn't used. Use it once/take it on a mission, and you'll only get half the tokens back.

Intellect(Intelligence) for manipulators (calculator-like computers that allow you to bend reality to your will by inserting parameters and solving complex equations) and willpower for amplifiers (stuff that goes into your brain that allows you to bend reality to your will by transforming part of your brain in a calculator).

I'm still looking for IC justification for getting Lars the lower-level psi-amp.

Spoiler: This one (click to show/hide)

10 tokens is half of the Battlesuit Fund, though.

I just noticed this is the only amp or manip with a range modifier.  That's probably significant in some way.

...Is your need to argue so great that you are arguing AGAINST your own team's odds of survival? Because your character may be immortal, but he still needs his teammates if he wants to have any hope of completing the objective.

EDIT: Irrelevant to the above
((Never saw Milno berating and arguing with his MkIII. :P))

Quote
"It'll cost ya a few tokens, that ok?" The man at the kiosk asks, "Like 3 or something." He looks a round a bit before leaning close to the slot of his kiosk and whispering, "So is it true about you and the Armory master?"

No problem, he had a good amount of tokens...What.

"What? What is true?" Milno asked. He was sorely tempted to outright say "no, it isn't", but he'd rather hear the whole story instead of looking like a retard after answering a question before knowing what it was about.

Ask.
"You know...With the" He whistles, and bumps his fists together. "Because I don't think I've ever seen her so much as hug a guy. Well, not since whats his name, but that didn't really count."
Too bad that scientist-doorman guy died.

That's really interesting.  If the quote I found really does refer to her father, then this makes a lot of sense- the guy he saw her hug was her dad, which wouldn't count as romantic interest.  It's also interesting, because it means her dad was still alive while that scientist was working on the sword.

Irrelevant: Origami Nano-computers inside Cockroaches

It's kinda inappropriate to post this stuff in the ER OOC thread, considering it has no relation to it except being sci-fi-ish.

But I'm so happy that you post it anyways, because that's just awesome.  They're turning cockroaches into computers!  Kinda!

Most of the time I do that because I hope the Village Tinker People will have a good idea and design something fun.
Plus, science!
And I don't want to clutter my updated topics list with that-thread-in-general-discussion-about-science-news-whose-name-I-forget.

And yeah, that theory about the AM sounds good. She DID say she was brought on the sword along with lots of other people, probably family. I think. I don't remember well right now.
But why would she be like that, why have those powers? And why would her family not have those powers if she was with them?

Baseless conjecture: She talked about her commander in the HMRC once, someone who cared about teammates and tried to keep civilians alive and stuff like that. She said that he died. She sounded resentful, as would be appropriate if that was her father.

Need to research that when I have a bit of time.

Her commander and her father were different people and according to her, the latter's death was expected. The AM said the guy with a hero complex died after her father and the former's demise was apparently a shock since it sounds he managed to inspire people - even her - in the same way comic heroes do by doing reckless things to save people and surviving.

I think "And I saw him fight, it still scares me." may refer to: the AM's father; the Doctor fighting seriously, regardless of during a mission or not, or another superhuman like the AM, which doesn't exclude her father, the commander she misses or whatever.

I remember him. If memory serves, she said he wanted to be a hero, to save everyone he could. He seemed invincible, almost making it through the ten missions. Then he took a piece of shrapnel to the head trying to save a rookie. Her resentment may have been because he died, or the way he died. Perhaps she thought he deserved better?

There are a lot of possibilities, such as mourning the stupid way he died or all the potential he had that was lost so easily. She may even have had a crush on him, since she was young and the guy was a hero-type, but of course I doubt she'd say it out loud.

I could be missing something, but the preceding line contains "Her father".  Wouldn't it be reasonable to assume the "him" in the next line refers to the same person?

I'm not responding to the first because there is probably no way to convince you.
Of course you're not going to convince me. You accused me of trying to kill my team by pointing out the flaws in their plan!
That doesn't make sense. :/
1. Why did you color some of my words orange?
2. I'm aware it doesn't make sense. Why do you think I'm so certain that argument won't work?

It is, which is why "her father" was the first possibility named. Since those were voices from different people and they made vague references to different times and events, I also didn't exclude the possiblity "him" refers to someone other than the AM's father.

Why do you assume a sod command position is anything important?  They're tools, like the gauss rifles other crewmen were using.  The only thing you need to be allowed to use them is trust.

Why would "They might come through the ceiling" be on your list of obvious, basic things to account for?
Gonna have to disagree here, commanding sods effectively would require tactical insight and thinking on the fly. They might be kinda like tools, but complex ones that require training, knowledge and insight to get the most out of.

Quote
The problem is, we see one example of a combined amp--one where the two functions are very, very similar. The "simplicity" of that is more than accounted for by the complexity of explanations for both a lack of other amp combinations and explanations for why amp specialists don't just have a universal amp and maybe a decomp and that's it.

I suspect that with designing amps/manips one has to balance precision, cost, raw power, ability (what kinds of parameters it can influence) and ease-of-use. That is why the universal manip is expensive and taxing to use: cause it can influence a lot of stuff with great power. So one amp could be as powerful/potent as need be, but beyond a certain point it becomes too expensive and hard to use. I don't suspect it's because of technical limitations the amp specialist needed to be wheelchair bound, but to increase his raw power and mindpool. And a little bit of gameplay-story segregation.
