Well, we are all either infertile or cancer-stricken due to stasis technology side effects, according to a s(n)ide remark by Steve.

That sucks doesn't it? Especially for people that wanted their genetic line to continue.

The Doctor could probably help with that if one asked him nicely.

If you're alive by the end of all this, then I'm certain you will be capable of figuring out how to make children.

I suppose so. Of course, it may be better to just find a way to put your DNA a human egg cell and raise the resulting thing as your child.

Why bother with half-measures? If we can grow people in vitro, I'm reasonably sure meiosis isn't really a challenge to induce. Just combine one of your resulting haploid cells with someone else's, and then put the resulting nucleus into an egg cell from a third party for extra genetic shenanigans, and then grow the result in a vat of nutrients and regulating factors up until infancy, and voila! A child to amuse and entertain one for several days at the very least.

On that note, why not have a tetraploid, hexaploid or even octaploid baby? That's up to four times the DNA they could have, which means up to four times the long-term mutation build up! If baker's yeast could do it, why not humanity?

Seriously, somebody should start seeding tribes of weird offshoots of humanity on every planet we visit. Surely having a mutated resistance cell would come in handy in the long term, right?

Great, more aliens for us to exterminate!

@Mission 16: Instead of having half the team constantly watching the bank, why not get/make a concealed sticky cam launcher, put a couple of sticky cams around and have one man watch the feeds?

Fire a test shot from each firing mode, allowing the different modes to be explained.  Take care between shots and don't go overboard.  Don't show off overcharge mode unless firing X-ray mode.

Hope I got a con bonus.

An important note - against cloth targets, all the different firing modes will do the same thing. Microwaves and X-Rays might do even less damage than usual to plain cloth. Might be important to mention that.

There... There is so much wrong in that text, it is a crime against biology.

Oh gods, rereading it just makes it worse.

Well, the mutation build-up part is pretty wrong, in immediate retrospect. It's more that the many copies of the same DNA help mask deleterious mutations (and not really limit the expression of beneficial ones, rare as they may be) due to duplicate gene action, similarly to how a 32n (if I recall correctly) Purkinje cell manages to avoid a lot of trouble over its long lifespan simply because of having 18 total copies of its genotype. Only really significant for adaptation (like in baker's yeast) if there's more than one specimen and you can get a population going over a period of at least a hundred thousand years, which you very well may not, given my suspicions that even a tetraploid child would run into some developmental issues I wouldn't be able to exactly outline without further reading. [/insecurity]

But hey, we have magic. We can fix a lot of things with magic, in my experience. And maybe a tetraploid baby would be larger than average, giving us a tangible visual representation of scientific progress in genetic mutilation.

Also, I notice there's a slight lack of infant-based imagery in ER thus far, which is kind of interesting. We should probably make some sort of baby-inspired armor design to strike fear into our enemies.
