Heh, of course to be precise Angel isn't even his name, it's a callsign... he doesn't even *have* a name anymore, merely a designation but it's a pain for me to keep opening up my notes everytime I want to post something to make sure I get the designation right so I've taken to calling him Angel out of pure laziness, if it's going to cause confusion I could switch to using a different callsign (he's had plenty over the years so I've got enough to pick from).

Ridicule? Perhaps.

Yeah, having a man named Angel is so totally ridiculous. What could be next, people calling themselves Feyri or Grate Worm or something like that? We should all have common English names because in the future everyone speaks English and to do otherwise would mean to risk ridicule. Yes. Clearly that is definitely the truth.

You have to agree though, that it doesn't sound like a real name, at least not a reasonably common one - with parents being free to name their kids what they want, I don't doubt there's an abundance of Frodos and Anakins out there now.

The existence of at least one fictional race called Fey'ri (or Fey-ri) doesn't help the cause at all. Really, anything with "Fey" in the name immediately conjures up images of some kind of fantasy setting. The only real Feyri a quick google found for me was a Feyri Pentilla, from a Cleveland City census circa 1940. I don't doubt there are others, but it's honestly not a name I really expect to see on an ID, no matter how real it is.

EDIT: Wait, Xan isn't a "proper" English name? I mean, I only know of one fictional man/robot named Xan (Xan Kriegor) but I always thought it was a "real" name.

EDIT2: Yeah, Wikipedia says Xan comes from Alexander. So it's a real name.

I remember him asking the AM later and she said that the process is long, has a very high mortality rate and leaves the man in permanent "coma", incapable of moving or feeling without using his amps. She also said that modifying someone to sense through amps also leaves the user in a "coma". So Pancaek chose not to risk his life to become a mindless puppet that is closer to a weapon than a human.

Yes, and no. All of what you said the AM said is true, but she also said that becoming an amp specialist took a long, long time. I thought she said something like 15 years of constant training and that we didn't have the implants needed.

I mean, not that I would have done it anyhow, being a comatose weapon in a wheelchair doesn't make for wonderful RP oppertunities. But it was never an option in the first place, so Pan never actually had a choice in the matter.

Then again, it proably would have made a better RP than being a hibernating brain in a box.
