Are you sure the wall grinders are the problem? What if there's something in the room they're trying to get away from? Something with a strange but very effective protection mechanism?

the probes, when they returned from the other universe, just began moving into the wall. when we sent people in to retrieve them, the people who got close or touched the probes began grinding against the wall. there is no indication that the people were trying to avoid something else in the room. I mean, there could be, but Occam's Razor.

It is even more fun if you imagine it like a Phoenix Wright trial. You know, everybody yelling and making exaggerated motions and expressions, with added sound effects and this playing in the background.

Is anyone with a sense of humor in there? You should take advantage of the situation and start making references/jokes/inappropriate comments to lighten the mood  accidentally make everything worse.

U_P, I reade Maurice's statement, and his action. He is behaving oddly, making a power grab (which he apparently alone decided) which is news to the room's inhabitants, and is dramatically revealing a powerful and highly dangerous device in his possession, while claiming he won't use it. That is a challenge, not a sumbission. the dramatic reveal of the orb, following immediately upon his power grab, is a powerful contrast to his words, and can easily be seen as threatening and hostile by the room. I'd say this is either silly posturing, melodramatic theater, or a not-so-veiled threat. Especially since, in addition to the power grab, he is claiming that his intent is to meddle with the orb until he get's it to work or he dies.

His actions are not, in my opinion, exactly promoting his stability and submissiveness, and Pan's interpretation is legitimate, if a bit harsh.

Ill accept hes making a power grab, but one we sorely need.

And yes, hes revealed an extremely dangerous artifact.
But he also informed them he had no intention of using it and threw the damn thing on the ground. not the best position to threaten someone from, especially seeing as miyamoto and pancaek could easily kill him before he could pick it back up.
Basically this action is just some posturing and theater. Hes saying he could have threatened them with it, but refused to do so thus making himself the one with the moral high ground.

As for revealing his intentions to muddle with it, thats the entire point of why we collect these things in the first place.
We are still the HMRC after all, even if we changed our name and the purpose behind why we collect these things.

his actions in my mind are perfectly stable, the thing thats hurting him is everyone is treating this as if he is also submissive.
He is using passive resistance, not simple submission.



Basically what im trying to say here is that Maurice isnt threatening anyone. Mainly because he currently he doesnt need to threaten anyone.

Thats the thing, everyone wants him to be the crazy power mad usurper, hell even i think it would be fun.

but nothing in his action strikes me as an overt threat except the part where he pulls out the tear, and he instantly reverses that by discarding it.

Except that he didn't have to produce it at all. Producing it at all is why it's considered a threat. It's like if I got fined, and then I pulled out a gun, and say I'm not going to pay my fine, and I could have totally used my gun, but I'm not going to

Response to ninja. I actually don't think Miya and Milno are being that unreasonable. They wouldn't have even punished Maurice if Maurice hadn't told them he tried to fuck with the lurker. That's totally OOC how a lot of us play, but from a IC perspective of a general trying to win a war/save humanity, fucking with an unknown powerful mind controlling entity as your go to response is NOT what you want a person with a lot of power in your army doing

He's being impetuous to his "superiors" whom he sees as equals, which is a fair viewpoint considering that he's been around at least as long as most of them. Somehow, I think this is less of a "Give me power" and more of a "Finally recognize me as a fucking equal" move, on Maurice's behalf.

Plus, there's the whole "Xenos BAD" versus "Xenos GOOD" going on in there. Milno and Miya definitely fall into the former and Maurice the latter. Milno and Miyamoto would rather not deal with or destroy hazardous xenos, while Maurice would much, much rather analyse and manipulate them into serving us, and he wants to have that voice be a recognized and respected one.

Pancaek appears to fall into M&M's camp on both account, while (I hate to assume here, but it appears that) Lyra is strictly within Maurice's, again on both accounts.

Ryan, for example, would see Maurice grabbing for power, but would support him on grounds of "Xenos GOOD".
