It was alright. Pity about Harrison Ford, the age thing was kinda messed up, but oh well. Not something I minded watching.

Spoiler: rather minor spoilers, but nonetheless (click to show/hide)

I liked how they put a teeny bit more political (ish) stuff in. Like making the First Order more explicitly the Nazis, or having the black lead be captured at birth (an American would get that more than me).

Apparently, they chose the female lead for looks, rather than acting, mostly, but I guess that at least they chose her on the basis of something, unlike the Hunger Games, IMO.

It was nice to see wookies and English forest and drystonewalling and stuff.

It was OK, but there were two things that left me a bad feeling.

The first one was that it felt a bit short. It gave me the feeling of watching a movie based on a book, that feeling that they compressed half the story to fill the blanks with action scenes. I know that doesn't make sense because there is no book and there will be other movies on which the characters will (hopefully) be explored a bit more, but that's just how I felt at the end of the movie. Maybe it would had felt differently if I had read those books they got out to bridge the gap between Episode 6 and 7.

The second was that the world felt small. I don't know what it was that made me feel like that. The lack of large areas with lots of people, like towns? The lack of large ships? The unrealistic depiction of distances in space?

Other than that, I liked it.

I knew there was a prequel book that was between the two movies. Didn't know there was a book about the movie. Let me Google that...

Small question: can we make that 'medbay backroom monster hunter' thing an official wiki job? If yes, I'll add it to the job page. Any restriction you'd like to see? Like a level restriction, so we don't have ten mission vets blazing through? Or is it "anyone can do it, I'll just dynamically scale difficulty"? I'd advise the former personally, seems easiest to do, but the latter could be interesting as well. Maybe also just 1 chance per person (to prevent farming)? Or they can keep doing it, but only get payed once. Or maybe pay people out in artifacts (or something like it), not tokens? Hell, maybe just let people keep their spoils of the hunt and have that be the pay?

All seems awfully complicated just for Piecewise to murder someone with an exotic spacehorror.
