Radio was saying a young Jamie Bamber would by Miyamoto, DP. :P
Indeed. Also, if we're going with stuff from that movie, I think whoever voiced Jar Jar Binks should voice Grate.
Why does everyone hate Grate now?

You'd also need to mod in anomalies and ER-style space magic.
Not too hard, and already in there (space wizard powers).
But not much like manipulators or amps. Which is why I specified.

Nobody hates Grate, but do you have another proposal as to who could be voiced by him?

Also, you have implants in SS13, so just combine code for an implant with code from some wizard power. I didn't say it's literally in there, I'm just arguing it shouldn't be overly hard to get it in (as in, not requiring a lot of brand new code built from the ground up).

Fixed that for you.

But we already have Patricia Routledge for Steve!

Fun-time offtopic question:

If ER was to be made into a movie and/or television series, who would y'all pick as actors for each of the characters?

Nic Cage with a dye job for Mesk is the best I've got right now. The others, not so sure. Peter Stormare for Anton for fake ethnicity points?

Someone not known for being an annoying part in the Star Wars prequels?
...Or any other films?

I'm not sure. Between the flexibility of space magic and the overloads...

By the way, maybe whoever did the voice work for Zakharov in Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri could be Simus's voice/actor?

Nicolas Cage and Christopher Walken would play every part. EVERY PART. There wouldn't even be sets, it would just be them in costumes that look like walls and couches and such.

I was bored last summer so I wrote a small script of the first mission of ER as part of a TV series just for fun. I might post it when I get back to my PC if I find the courage to do so.

ooo I hope it's a wacky sitcom!

How about Mark Hamil, but he's wearing make up to look younger and spends the entire movie walking around on his knees.

I can probably count all the actors/actresses I know both the names and some of the roles they've played on my fingers.
Huh, so can I-  but I can probably count the number of different movies I've ever seen on my fingers, so that probably doesn't count.

Nic Cage for Mesk is perfect for Mesk.  Not so much other people, such as Feyri.  Or May.

Zakharov is male, GWG.  I'm not sure that would fit Simus.

For Steve Saint, I'll go with Benedict Cumberbatch.  Entirely because of this one line, and especially because of that inhuman smile.

Failing that, Zachary Quinto.  Because Sylar.  Despite the fact I'm trying to play Saint as a decently realistic sociopath.

True. Still, I tend to imagine Simus as looking kinda like Zakharov, even when I remember she's synth. The magic of having human avatars.

Simus as played by C-3P0?

Brother Lars would obviously be played by the priest from Dead Alive, so he can "kick ass for the Lord Steve."

I thought this started on the OOC thread.  Oops.  Anyway...

We should be lucky we didn't outright miss a ship and just have a team flying off into SPAAAAAAAAAAACE.
What's the chance we reached escape velocity? ...Of the star?

Well, let's do some quick math.  In terms of masses, I'm going to make some assumptions.

1)  Hephaestus is Earth-sized.
2)  Its star is Sol-sized.
3)  The UWM fleet is orbiting at the same height as the ISS.
4)  When PW says that...

The shells impact less then a minute after being fired

...I'm defining this as 45 seconds.  There was some retrograde rocket firing to slow them down, so it works out close enough.

Now, the ISS orbits at ~370 km.  Escape velocity from the Earth's surface is 11.2 km/sec.  From the Earth, solar system escape velocity is 42.1

So if we made that 370 km/sec distance in 45 seconds, then:

370/45 = 8.222...

...then we wouldn't even escape the planet.  So it'd actually be quite survivable since the pods allow us to ignore g-force and impact effects.

So, worst-case-scenario, we'd end up in orbit of Hephaestus. Or maybe it would be worse if we landed hard in an important antimatter factory or something. Either way, we'd be okay.

Yuri Nesteroff is the guy who voiced Zakharov, and he would do Anton. Allie Rivenbark, who voiced Prime Function Aki-Zeta 5 of the Cybernetic Consciousness, would voice Simus.

My ideas on casting:

Too bad Philip Seymour Hoffman is no longer around. That man was a great and versatile actor, he would have been a great Steve. R.I.P. So, perhaps:

Steve - Denzel Washington: Denzel Washington strikes me as an authoritative leader, and his roles as a leader have him always being the guy to get shit done. He's also familiar with the passive aggressiveness and sharp wit that characterizes Steve.

The Doctor - Dr. Steel: The man's got a musical and acting background, though of a more wacky demeanor than what's found in the ER-verse. Still, he does bare a striking resemblance, and I like that he doesn't have the typical lanky/thin build for a mad-doctor, but a muscular tough one, which would be more appropriate for demonstrating The Doctor's raw power.

The Armory Master - Scarlett Johansson: She's has a demeanor of someone older and more experienced in her actor, while still retaining her beauty and grace. Her hair would need to be shortened and dyed for her role, which she has done before like in 'Under the Skin'. Coincidentially, one of her upcoming films looks like it might as well be about the Armory Master's origins anyways.

Nyars - Javier Bardem: I've always thought Nyars was thug-like in his behavior, but not in the "I'm a tough-guy and I'll fight you rawrrawr"; he's more of a practical pusher man. I also feel like he should have some sort of accent, and so to combine these two factors, I'd choose Javier for roles he's played in the past, where he's all about shady business, and has an excellent grasp of the English language even with his accent bleeding through.

Milno - Some Young Dude: Fuck, this is a hard one because of Milno's age. Bionically, I'm guessing he's in his early 20's, and I was coming up with all sorts of options until I realized that they've all suddenly become old guys. Mark Whalburg, Chris Evans, Will Smith, Ed Norton, etc. They were all in their 20's, and then 5 years later, they're suddenly middle-aged. How does that work? I wouldn't want to try it, and have it end up like Leonardo Dicaprio in "The Great Gatsby", where he tries to pass off for 29.

Faith - Natalie Portman: She looks just like a Faith-type, maybe she'd need to add some Red to her hair. Plus, as of late, a lot of Natalie's movies have her losing her sanity and going nuts, much like Faith on occasion.

Feyri - Rooney Mara: I've thought of Feyri as the tall, slim, rational, maternal "team mom" to keep everything in order, like Rooney, who isn't afraid to resort to the ultraviolence when necessary either, even if she has some moral hang-ups.

Lyra - Yuko Goto: Yuko plays cute, nervous, mousey girls all the time. And what is Lyra? Well, she's more "catty" than mousey now, but still.

Stacy - Stamper: Okay, Stamper's a Youtube Personality, but since this is all hypothetical fun, we should be allowed to make stretches. Besides their age difference, I've always used Stamper's appearance and personality to imagine what Stacy would look and sound like. Stamper's "Potato Salad" illustrates what I believe a normal day would be like for Stacy pre-HMRC. (WARNING: Crazy Bullshit.)

Elizas - Pharrell Williams: For a long time, I thought Elizas would be more like Jamie Foxx or Kanye West. As of now however, the former is to old to play Elizas, and Kanye is sort of...Kanye. Pharrel is almost as old as Jamie Foxx, but he's been taken youth elixir or something. Seriously, how is he 40? He also looks like he could play a guy trying to get with all the ladies.

May - Katy Perry: Honestly, I really like this one. Look at the similarities: They both constantly switch back and forth in their personalities between a sweet, innocent debutante, and a terrifying crazy succubus. People are split on whether they're cute girls or spawned monstrosities. Both do wack, crazy shit, all the time. And they're both fair-skinned, dark-haired, big-eyed women with ample assets. Hell, I was just looking at some music videos, and not only could Katy Perry play May, it works vice-versa: any of Katy's music videos could easily be explained as something created from May's mind/perspective.

That's all I got for now, maybe I'll think of some more later.

Somehow, while reading the first few sentences of your post, the idea of Morgan Freeman as Steve popped into my head.
...
Not sure what Denzel Washington is like (I barely recognize the name), but your description makes him sound like a better Steve than Freeman. Although Morgan Freeman as Steve would be amusing.

I know that actress! Kinda. I think she's done some previous roles which would fit well. Either that or I'm confusing her with someone else.
Better than I can say for most on this list.

No argument here.

I know as much about Portman as I do about Washington (the actor, not the presidents), so I'll trust your judgement here.

She's an actress?

Maybe I should stop commenting on this matter.

I thought of Morgan Freeman originally as well, but I don't think he's suited to be a sharp-witted evil ringleader. He played a somewhat similar role to Steve in...some movie I can't remember, and I it wasn't one of his better roles. He's much better as an elderly grand-father figure, spouting wisdom and academia. Denzel is much more driving and energetic as an actor. I don't know if you'd know any of his movies...he was in that one sci-fi movie, "The Book of Eli", where he attempts to save the last Bible on Earth in the post-Apocalypse.

"She's an actress?"

I admitted that it'd be okay to stretch out beyond the typical realm of Hollywood Actors and Actresses. For example, if anyone knew a musician that could play as one of the characters in E.R., that'd be cool.
