Anyway, we learned one valuable lesson here: Fate does not determine damage.  Mesk had a +4.

Well my theory is that fate is the chance to avoid harm when possible, but the situation just didnt allow for that.

Also remember that his not-so-nano bots would kill him trying to repair the damage if he was ever exposed to vacuum. And that the entire team had punctured suits, even the ones who rolled "well".

My hypothesis is that fate determines who gets hit when something is entirely random.  Like if a sod shoots at the squad, or a urban executor decides to MC one of them.  Or who gets hit during a hot drop.  Things that weren't affected by any stats before.

An explosion doesn't really fall into that category, because it's an AoE.  Everyone is hit by an explosion, and everyone rolls end.

Good point.  Let's compare all of the deaders and their stats:

By severity of injury:
Mesk:     +0 End, +4 Fate -Permadead, microbots
Dubley:   +2 End, -1 Fate -Severe stat loss
Pancaek:  +1 End, +1 Fate (+Synthbody) -Minor stat loss.
Faith:    +1 End, +1 Fate (+Synthbody) -No inv, no body
Thaddeus: +1 End, +1 Fate -No inv, no body
Yancy:    +1 End, +0 Fate -Partially intact
Dubley provides a decent argument for Fate being important, since he has both the best end, and the worst fate, and the second worst injuries.  If it were strictly end, you'd expect one of the +1 people to have done worse than him.

On the other hand, you'd also expect one of the +1 fate people to have done better than Yancy.  It's less unlikely than everyone rolling better than Dubs, though.

Of course, that's only if PW decided Mesk would permadie due to the microbots.  It would be just like him to forget something like that.  We'll probably get to find out when the video finishes uploading.

If its random its avoidable and therefore you roll fate, if its unavoidable (like the nukes) you're simply fucked.

Also anyone remember the time window on brain recovery? I keep hinkking its a mere 5 hours.
