Well, quite. There's character drama and then there's forum drama, and when the two intersect then the situation ought to get some rethinking done on it. I guess it's not so much a shame about the retcon, really, more of an opportunity for fun IC bickering wasted by worthless OOC bickering, to clarify my feelings on the issue.

EDIT: Though I do admit to being interested on who's exactly the authority on shocking/permadeathening people through deadly IRC. Is it the Council? I thought that was kind of OOC, y'know. Or is the Council also a representation of all the other brains Steve has in him, so that he's not represented only by piecewise?

Could you explain in some more detail what exactly you mean? The council didn't get involved in this particular debacle at all, though I can't say I didn't consider bringing it up so we could brainstorm on how to avoid similar (aka OOc shitstorms) situations in the future.

Eh, not really important. I think I sort of understand the process already - team leader considers permakill via shock implant > confers with IRC or just asks for it through PM > brainstorm on IRC > eventual firm answer on no permakill. That about how it goes? I just had the slightly odd suspicion that there was some kind of shadowy IRC-based panel involved on figuring out whether to allow permakills-on-demand by team leaders or not, and pictured it as not dissimilar to the trial scene in The Wall. It was probably this "we have decided" vibe I got from some of the preceding posts, most notably UP's take:

When piecewise posted the action to render auron unconscious prior to the retcon they wanted permadeath but piecewise  ruled that if you want someone dead you gotta kill them yourself.

It just sounded a little sinister, that little "they" part.

Here are the guidelines used by me and also sent to Steve, in case anyone's interested:
  • Disobeying team leader's orders: shock into inactivity;
  • Complaining, refusing to carry on with orders and the mission, issuing threats (established after it had happened in-mission): unconsciousness, followed by military court at the Sword;
  • Mission-threatening stuff (preparing to kill allies or fire at very mission-sensitive equipment such as the main computer or stored nukes): perma-death, changed a bit before the second incident to temp-death followed by court at the Sword.
The last order was the most contingent of all so to say because we had Thad, Steve and Milno watching the moves of everyone so that it could be executed before the person did what they wanted to do. Steve can feel the intent to kill/destroy thanks to the tech inside us and we could see any strange movements in order to act quick. Trying to shock the offender dead after the ship had gone boom with everyone inside or after they had killed someone would hardly help.

It is worth noting these guidelines were supposed to apply to everyone.

>That is horrible and disgusting. It will no doubt set you apart and create fear in your team mates. So of course.

Hey, mission peoples?  You know those worms which dissolved Prae and Radio's armor?  If someone could somehow capture one of those, or their acid, or their acid production gland, Hephaestus would be very happy.  We would most likely pay you extra for that sample.

Also, both Prae and Comrade have flight rockets on their equipment.  Prae has a mobility variant assaultsuit, and all variants of HRB have rockets.  You both can fly around at least as well as Flint.

@Auron discussion

Auron didn't try to kill Simus after being shot.  IIRC, Simus ordered him to stop constructing the Thundertron (stuff like that had been forbidden even before he built it) and return the massive cannon he armed it with, which costed RU (the currency we were using to buy defenses).  In response, he aimed his laser at Simus' braincase, and Simus asked Steve to shock him.  Steve did so, and Auron tried to shoot Simus, but she dodged and he instead hit a massive fuel tank behind her (which exploded).

Not that wanting to kill Simus is all that unusual.  I've wanted to a few times myself.

I wish Auron had been kept on the mission.  It would be entertaining to watch.  Then again, I'm the guy who enjoyed arguing with GWG over practucally nothing for literal hours, so maybe I'm unusual in that respect.

I tried to, cause of course I could see the applications of that stuff. We'll see this turn if pw will allow us to have some.

Also, thanks for telling about it being a mobility variant, it'll help to have a flier.

I think the enjoying conflict online thing is like an offshoot of GIFT. I mean, I like it as well, it's very liberating if you are having fun with it.

I'm holding those ones for some special occasion. I'm trying to be productive on earth right now. If I'm needed to fly around for some team work stuff, I'll do so upon request.

not entirely accurate there, after Simus demanded the cannon back Auron agreed that it was too excessive and told her that he would take it off once the droid had finished running its hueristic algorithms or whatever, she refused to wait that long and had him shockedso he tried shooting her in the face where he knew the brain was not present.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

Should have just been kept IC, really.
This is generally the best solution. There would have been none of this nastiness. Well, not OOCly, anyway.

Hello guys. I'm sorry for Renen being braindead for a while. I was finishing some things for my graduation and that took a lot of my time... I will try to get tha update of the game and, after that, try to get Renen back in action if possible.

Last time I remember... Renen was coming back with the Diplomacy group (and that was last year)....

I think I just found the WWII HMRC equivalent. Turns out it's the english tank crews. A Lt. Ken Giles on driving his M3 Grant during the battle of El Alamein:

“The 75mm main gun is firing,The 37mm secondary gun is firing, but it’s traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying, ‘Driver advance’ on the A set, but the driver – who can’t hear me – is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret, and see 12 enemy tanks, just 50 yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich.”
