If only you had a team member who was able to, say, adapt in a way so as to counter the Haebi. A changer of form, you might say. Mayhaps a shapeshifter if you were feeling colloquial.
Maybe this shapeshifter would have an X in their name.
Maybe it'd even be the first letter!

Xan that's not how it works, the haebi have the advantage of NOT being an unstable insane prototype that has undergone multiple generations worth of genetic degradation and an entire planet's worth of intelligence to figure out how to adapt to whatever you throw at them.
It's like comparing a toy transformer to an actual transformer able to make new transformations whenever it wishes, as well as being able to create more of itself!
Edit: Well, the one thing you have going for you is that already formed haebi (soldiers) can't change any more from when they are formed, but they have thousands and you have one, well, had one.

Also, it's covering the entire planet. The entire enemy force is comprised of it and they have far more resources.

And to pile on top of it, Haebi don't have a set line of evolution, so you can only evolve to adapt to the newly adapted Haebi while being assaulted by them.

I was more making reference to the fact that I could have been a versatile weapons platform for a team by attacking with various different types of things. Acid, toxins, fire, claws, etc.

Also I was hoping to infect the Haebi node with myself so I could have some actual confidence in my immortality, but that's kinda off the table for now anyway.

As an aside, it's apparently mental degradation I've gone through, not genetic, since that doesn't exist outside of racism-fueled universes like the Yog-Sothothery.
I'll be getting myself examined anyhow.

I doubt the Haebi have seen the Star-Eater, so it wouldn't be STAN (that's the only reason why STAN was reality cancer was that, incidentally, otherwise it may have been fine or at least something necessitating orbital bombardment wouldn't have happened) - sure, it'd be a gigantic abomination, but not a supernatural one.
