It was mentioned before that powerful gravity automanipulators could perhaps contain the Eater.  A ship of the Swords' size may have a few in storage or a few non-essential ones that can be cannibalized.  If the ship is in orbit around the planet (not sure), they could perhaps be hot-dropped in a pod to your location and quickly set up.

Might be worth a question to Steve, at least, if he is asking for specifics.  I'm not entirely sure if this is feasible or makes sense.
