Just guessing, really.  None of that would make a title non-fun, but it's simply the way many games are.

there's a demo out right now.

From what I've read it something like a more real time Xcom. So, automatic fighting sort of, but more RTS then tower defense, if that makes sense.

As per the others, it doesn't have any payment system, the customization comes from gear and squad interactions (Apparently they have personalities and opinions of each other, as well as specific fears and skills). I would assume the "New threats" thing probably just means Procedural generation, like DF or lots of roguelikes and roguelites. As per the "Impossible odds" thing, there's no pay to win or matchmaking (Not even sure what you mean by that, since it's a single player game), it's just really hard; like later levels of xcom. They stack the odds against you.

http://deadnaut.com/ has the demo. I post it here because it reminded me of ER, though from a commander's perspective.

Don't forget the two dozen laser rifles wielded by the science team. I don't think one more would help. Plus the implied Mass Manipulation Amp from when Auron threw a Goop grenade at them.

Pity I can't access the article itself, but with a bit of biochemistry (among other things - emitting coherent light is one thing, a a damaging laser is quite another) and a source of green light...

set my lasers intensity all the way down and increase its diffusion then begin slowly burning away the containment foam behind me so i can escape.

if successful in creating an escape route, use it.

You sure that hardpoint can turn around to shoot at your back? Hell, if that thing is incased in goop it probably can't move itself.

I shot myself with it in vr once by having it to a 360° spin.

And it shouldnt be gooped much if at all beacause by hands were clutched to my chest as i flew backwards into the goop.

I shot myself with the Gungnir in VR once. That doesn't mean it could help in that situation.

(Granted, that was more of a "me, myself, and I" situation, but still. )

Though I guess trying won't hurt. Much.
