I'm going to do the smart thing here and disengage. This isn't a hill I paticularly care to die on.

Those were times of scarce resources.
So's this one.
Hm, now what's one of the scarcest, most-desired resources in the West today...?

I'd say the violence in these religions inspired the people to survive and start a new era. Whether or not they were divinely inspired, they were what the people wanted and needed.
And thus religion is explained.

Those were times of scarce resources.

Just came back to check on this and -

Islam vs Christianity

Oh boy.

So which religion produces more violence, do you think?

Oh boy.

Yeah, sorry about that poor and lacking starting statement, I had just come off a argument with a friend and hadn't really proofread this enough, or put as much thought into as I should have. I hadn't meant for it to come off as... Confrontational... To Islam as it did, but at least I don't hear people baying for my blood or insulting me yet :P

On another note, Norse mythology does have violence as part of their "religion", but they don't take it as divine word to wage complete and total war upon any who don't believe. It's just... War. Fighting because that's how they reach Valhalla, whether it's believers or no believers. They don't wage war in the name of religion. And as far as my understanding goes, Islam preaches or at least condones waging war on whoever doesn't believe in it, even going as far as to call out Christianity specifically.

Christianity, on a different perspective, preaches understanding* and friendship/love, but is often misconstrued for political reasons, or just human corruption. Not in the way it was taught originally.

*understanding insofar as not killing those who don't believe. Christianity, whether it seems horrible or not, is exclusive, at least for those who believe and repent, blah blah blah. I could seriously give a sermon right now on this :P. But that also depends on the sect. My current church is non-denominational.

PTW, I like the direction of this thread, as most of my experiences debating religion on this forum are either a total circlejerk or beat the shit out of the dissenting opinion via zerg rush tactics. It's nice to see someone who understands my religion as well as I should.

Only in the new testament through the teachings of Jesus, and Jesus is considered one of the holy prophets of Islam, so it is hard to say Christianity teaches peace any more than another, very closely related religion such as Islam...

Wel, the distinction is that Islam uses Jesus as a Prophet, when in Christianity he's the Messiah. He has less of an impact in Islam, and they don't explicitly follow his teachings.

Neither do most Christians!
They have a few prophets and are all considered significant to some degree, just like Christianity. I mean it isn't like Christians just disregard the Ten Commandments because Moses isn't the most central figure to their teachings, so I don't see how it is any different from Muslims having Jesus as the non-central figure and still taking his stuff seriously.
