I just order couple of jewelers to encrust everything. Also, mass-cutting gems will producre couuple of large gems, which are very useful trading stuff in fort's first years.

Well, I simply get a 3 dorfs team early and let them do their work undisturbed for ages. One cuts, one makes crafts from stone, the third encrusts the hell out of them. This allows me for early buy-outs of caravans, but I'm starting to think that it drives my wealth too high too soon, as I usually get swarmed by migrants and sieges I have a hard time dealing with... Is that a common problem?

I'm sitting at years without migrants, but I think that's because my liaison got killed. *sigh*

How exactly do you make a gem window?

Man I need to train up some jewelers by cutting stone. I want to attempt that window thingie.

It's too bad we can't encrust clothes with gems.

Oh yes, we can. My jewellers were very fond of encrusting tattered clothing scattered across the fortress. I don't tell them to "encrust finished goods" anymore because of that.

Uh, you should be able to prevent that with a jewellers only burrow.
