I've only found aluminum on 1 embark out of maybe 50-60 so far. But if its properties are anywhere near realistic, it would probably make trash armor, and probably be too light for hammers or maces... Also i don't know how the material properties equate to damage in swords and spears. But the reason why theres so much fancy metallurgy in sword making. You want teh edge to be hard enough to hold a sharp edge (without becoming dented, or dull from impact) but you want the core of the sword to be soft, yet strong, and impact resistant, so that it won't shatter on impact.

Aluminum can't hold an edge for crap. Yeah you could make one IRL, and sharpen it, and definitely cut yourself with it. But it wouldn't be able to penetrate any reasonable material armor. And a really one would be extremely light (say 6-10 lbs for a nice steel sword, depending on the mix, you could maybe get it as low as 2-5) so though it would be quick to swing, you wouldn't be able to knock an opponents weapon or shield back easily.

Firstly, if you want aluminum in game, embark on a volcano. Secondly, even a 3 foot blade shouldn't (ideally) weigh more than 2 to 3 lbs.
