Immortal migrant?
« on: January 25, 2014, 03:12:26 am »

I made a challenge fort- solo, 1x1 embark, aquifer, on a necromancer tower. Plan is to stabilize food/booze production, train dwarf till he's good enough, invade tower, kill everyone, take over tower and convert into dwarf fort.
However, this 2nd wave migrant went insane but will not bloody die.

He's been insane for over a year- has no unhappy thoughts about hunger or thirst.
Is he bugged? What's going on here?
Edit.
Used therapist trick, definitely a vampire. Not sure how i am going to kill him now. Can someone delete this post? Didn't mean to spam.

A vampire is definitely a possibility.  Does he have a lot of group memberships in his history?

Why don't you keep him for science purposes later? You can vampirize any dwarf later on.

He'll probably just wander around until he gets killed by goblins, unless you have invaders off, which you likely do.

Invaders aren't off, this is a challenge fort :P
I guess as long as he is in a relatively safe spot there's no need to kill him.

You could try to put him into the Necro tower to thing out the hordes a bit, if the corner of that screen is any indication.

sounds like you just found your book keeper. make him an office and then remove the door... or assign him to the military.

Insane dwarves don't do jobs.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Insane vampires _apparently_ don't suck blood. I'm not sure, since i wasn't going to give mine the run of the fort for months, but he just hung out in the meeting hall for a while when i let him out, in spite of being bugged to be eternally "on break" (while insane, yes). So there's absolutely no need to kill him, unless you want to make sure your fort dies with your last normal dwarf. If you have a meeting area, he should eventually gravitate there, and you could move him around slowly and randomly by giving him personal rooms.

Oddly, he seemed to respect burrows. I used on to get him on a spike, then just ordered my dwarf to flip the lever. I recognize he could be useful later, but this is supposed to be a hermit/1 dwarf fort. I have to kill all the migrants.

I have a ram in a cage that was flung on top of my walls where none of my dwarves can get. A year later, he's still alive, long after the turkey that my dwarves refused to take out of its cage and put in the pasture died.

I'm curious to see how much longer it lasts...so far, so good...

I'm sorry your husband had a strange mood and ended up making a useless trinket out of useless materials without gaining any experience in the process.
