History of the Finnish Parliament
History of Finish parlament, as it is told by Finish parlament.
One thing they leave out is that Tanner didn't join the reds in civil war despite being in Social Democratic Party and had history of opposing communist hardliners in it, both traits that helped in getting that prime minister seat after the civil war. Other is that his greatest archivement was pulling 180° in SDP politics from what they were before and right after the civil war and puting it more in line with right-wing parties.
Finland had a near-fascist government in the Winter War? That's the first time I've heard anyone claim that. Sure, there were fascist-ish movements, but any hope of them gaining power went down with the Mäntsälä rebellion.
I'm slightly confused at the amount of Finland-talk in this thread, but I ain't sayin' I miiiind.
You know Fins love to talk about ourselves? But yes, that was little too strongly phrased from me, but punishments for the political leaders of Lapuas Movement was equivalent of slap on the wrist, year or two in prison and then they were back in their previous position in goverment or army, no hard feelings. After the movement was disbanded their activists formed
IKL, that managed to make it to the parliament despite their failed coup attempt.
AKS did much the same work in well educated circles till the end of the last war. It's hard to look at Finnish politics between civil war and winter war without running into radical right-wing group connections.
I'll stop ranting now, it was mostly in responce to Knit tie's post that USSR could have had Finnish territory without war, like Russia is doing now in Crimea.
