Pretty sure 'uruk' is just a term for orcs in general.

Nah, the Uruk-hai are definitely a different breed/type of Orc.

I didn't say Uruk-hai, I said "uruk". :P
I know what Uruk-hai are...

Durr... Never mind then.

I'll try to limit my bellyaching, but this just looked terrible.  Wraith powers?  WTF?  The obvious AC-style free running, the magical jumping around....  Ugh.  I'm so disappointed Warner Bros didn't continue down the path of War in the North which had great coop and a well thought out story that meshed with lore nicely.  This just looks like the marketers got hold of development to make an OP 1337 char that shreds canon without hesitation.  Ugh!

Shred canon all you want!  If the game's fun, who cares?  Lord of the Rings isn't gonna disappear from bookshelves.

looks it might be fun but I guess it won't be anything at all like this.

too much freedom is shown here, all that will be restricted to specific plot point.

looking forward to be contradicted, but won't hold my breath for it.

So am I right in remembering that the Uruk-hai were Saruman's new breed of orcs, not Sauron's?
this is true. orcs are twisted elves, bred and deformed by torture and magic.
uruk hai are orcs cross bred with savage men and sarumans creation.

As far as i recall there were several more kinds of Orcs around.

Goblins - which were the most twisted and weakest among the Orcs.
??? -  lets call them normal orks. The vast mass of them your standard twisted creatures.
Uruks- Straighter standing, less twisted and crippled, more intelligent and fierce.
Morannon Orcs - Straight Standing Orcs, the strongest and most intelligent among them, the best you can achieve without breeding something else in.
Uruk-Hai -  yeah you know those dudes...

thats it if i recall it correctly the different breeds of Orcs. There might be several more breeds i have forgotten...

No, that's completely wrong. It's more like this:

Goblins, Orcs - different words for the same thing. Twisted creatures bred by Morgoth in mockery of the Elves.
Uruk-hai (meaning Orc-people in the Black Speech) - a stronger, taller and more intelligent creature based on Orcs and possibly interbred with Men. Sauron and Saruman used them in their armies. They can endure in the sunlight. Uruk is a shortening of Uruk-hai.
Half-orcs - the most human-like in appearance. Details are hazy, but they're likely another result of cross-breeding.
Snaga, Snufflers - smaller Orcs used for labour and tracking, respectively.

Morannon Orcs - not canon

So am I right in remembering that the Uruk-hai were Saruman's new breed of orcs, not Sauron's?

Not true, Saruman and Sauron used Uruk-hai. And Tolkien never settled on a conclusive origin for Orcs. It seems like he tended towards the idea that Orcs were twisted Men in his later years.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

To toss my 2c in on the game:

The nemesis system could be brilliant, if it's well worked through. Or, more likely, a gimmick that merely generates a large number of possible names for the games main enemies, with a number of possible different annoying cutscenes.

The gameplay itself looks decent, but nothing amazing. AC, unsurprisingly, has been done before. Wraith powers are interesting, but mostly for the ability to contort minds, with the rest just seeming to make the player feel powerful.

As for the lore shredding..... trying not to think about that.

no, every time I see a 'open' game like this I am reminded of how shafted I got by 'Republic the revolution' and avoid any temptation of preordering.

will wait for metacritic user reviews.

..Why is Gollum in this.

Because they need something familiar for people to latch onto to prove that it's not just a bad reskin of an already bad series?
