Bay12 Cover Band - Interest gauge
« on: January 22, 2014, 01:50:41 am »

I don't know if this has been a thing that already happened in one form or another, nor do I really care. I like it.

The concept is this: I put up a poll with three albums (with lyrics) chosen mostly through user suggestions, you vote on whichever you like the most, and then you sign up to record yourself singing one of the songs on the album, with or without instrumental backing depending on how much effort you want to put into it. Then, I compile it into one Bay12 cover album and archive it here.

It sounds like fun to me, at least. No vocal talent required, make if as silly or heartfelt as you desire. Anyone interested?

I'm in man.

What's your stance on mic quality?

As long as you're audible and not ear-shatteringly loud, it's probably fine. Judge it for yourself, I guess.

Vocaroo, regular recording software and subsequent upload to download sites, whatever is most convenient.

For demonstration's sake, I'll choose the albums in the first poll.

First up is The Wall by Pink Floyd. A classic rock-opera that I'm sure most people are familiar with, though it may contain some language people might not be comfortable with. I can only think of a couple songs off my head with stuff that could be considered seriously offensive, but keep this in mind: All the songs are sung from the perspective of a mentally ill douchebag. I'm just getting this out of the way now so there's (hopefully) no controversy or nervousness about singing certain songs.

Second, Loaded by The Velvet Underground. Nico/The Banana Album/whatever you want to call it could've also worked, but the lyrics in Loaded are a bit livelier and I think it'd be more fun.

Third option is Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. Listed as the best album in history by The Rolling Stone Magazine, SPLHCB contains a lot of The Beatles' classics, like A Day in the Life, When I'm Sixty Four, and A Little Help from My Friends.

How about London Calling by The Clash? That's a pretty good one. Also got quite a bit of musical variety, so there's that.

Or Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, for a sillier suggestion.

Or, silliest of all, God Bless Tiny Tim, to test Bay12's falsetto abilities.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is going to be amazing (assuming we get through this one and Tiny Tim wins).
