Allright, lets cut some wood near the mine. But lets use that mostly at the mine.

I agree that we should use the wood near the mine, for the mine. But first, we actually need a mine...

Mowat's ideas are avowedly speculative and often stretch the evidence farther than might be permissible [ie: makes generalizations or takes conclusions too far, at best]. In addition, his book incorporates passages of overt fiction, in which Mowat describes the lifestyles of the Albans in novelistic detail. Because of this, scholarly reaction has been muted and dismissive.
Convincing.
Still, you did say "theorized"...but I've gotta agree, leather boats probably ain't the best to go on long sea voyages in.

Our population is rising, so hunting isn't going to be sustainable for very long. I'd go for pickaxes because at this point a civilization would aim to find more permanent methods of building a structure. People would be more interested in stone than wood due to it's durability, so they'd want to establish better access.

I don't think we should make any assumptions about who we're bound to run into, this isn't Canon-Earth after all. Maybe we could meet up with some Hippie-type civilization, or some warriors that only wage battle against sand dunes. There's no definitive law that we're going to run into 'X'-type of people.
I believe that we can wait a bit before building watch towers. Right now it seems like we should focus on growth and internal improvements. So I support all that stuff.

Regardless, I'd still imagine they'd be brittle, if nothing else. And probably also limited in size.

Our population is rising, so hunting isn't going to be sustainable for very long.
And when did that stop any society? Before the game ran out, I mean.

Hunting can be sustainable for large populations, provided large enough breeding stocks are maintained with low enough population density.

As for the boats, There are quite large (30~ feet) ones that are wooden or bone frames with the leather stretched over, as all leather boats are made.

Low population densities clash with high population, at least in spirit.

30 feet is pretty puny for an oceangoing vessel...

not for a coastal vessel, and we're not going much further than the coast for a very long time, so they'll work for now

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

I was referring to the theory that leather vessels were used for transatlantic crossings. Sometime towards the early-middle of the middle ages, at the latest, since it was before the Norse reached North America (before the Second Millennium).

On an unrelated note, do you think anyone had a special celebration that fateful December day when another digit was added to the calendar?

Not the spirit of "high population".
Perhaps Siberian or Australian nomads?

Who used 25 foot vessels to go a few hundred miles. Material is of no matter, draft is.

However, wooden boats can deal with ice.
