Please help! Noob-ish (noobile?) dfhack questions
« on: January 20, 2014, 01:48:40 pm »

So I'm not completely hopeless with vanilla, although I'm a far cry from an expert,  but I've finally downloaded the lazy noob pack.  Problem is, I have no idea how to use it or dfhack--which is included with it.

Rather than try to have the whole ball of wax explained, I have 1 or 2 specific questions.

1st, what moved me to embrace LNP was the children not growing up bug, which it fixed.  My question, do I have to run a script, or is it automatically fixed if I'm running DF from a current version of the LNP?

Thanks for your patience and answers--I've tried looking this stuff up, but I'm stuck.

The latest version of the LNP has the DFHack growthfix script installed already. You know it's working if DFHack regularly says "GrowthFix: Fixed # units.", where # is some blah amount of units freshly arrived to the map.

Hmmmm...It seems that I'm not actually using the LNP.  I downloaded it a couple months ago and have been running the game from it rather than a normal DF icon, but I don't recall switching folders and so on (which I've been reading you need to do to run LNP).  Also, I never have had any messages in the dfhack window.

Ok, follow up question--if I only want to run the growth fix using dfhack, how do I do that?

PS--I feel I should be able to find this answer, but I've tried without success   :(

have you tried to find the answer in the dfhack thread in the modding forum?

easiest solution is probably to try and find out why you're not running it through the LNP

as extra check, when starting df through the LNP you get DF, DFHack, Therapist and a 4th thing I don't know wht it is. DFHack starts with several lines of... stuff, including a list of 5 or so plugins that it has loaded (armor stand fix, growth fix, long duty fix, training fix, not sure which others)

To start it through LNP, just click the Lazy Newb Pack executable JAR file, not the regular executable which is labeled as 'old' for me in the PeridexisErrant LNP r44 map (the version I have, which is the latest I think. LNP was dropped by the previous person and picked up by PeridexisErrant, as is mentioned at several places).

Thanks!  I'll keep poking around in the dfhack thread!

You can deactivate features by opening dhfack.init and putting an hash '#' in front of the specific lines.
