strange lag

im getting huge lag spikes down to 1 fps in dwarf fortress looking at the cpu usage it goes down to idle levels some of the spikes have even resulted in dwarf fortress becoming unresponsive for up to 3 minutes i have tried restarting my computer and closing every program but it stays even in menus

fine section. Several things can be happening. One, spring or winter may arrive, causing stuff to freeze or melt. This usually caused a big lag for just that moment. Second, if you have seasonal saves on, the game may freeze up at the changing of the seasons while saving. Third, a FB may hide in the caverns that has some special ability or consistency that causes problems in water. A fire based one, for example, will generate huge steam cloads. I had troubles with one with noxious fumes creating lag any time it entered a cavern lake.

There may be some other issues too, but these are the first ones I could think of
