The Socratic Agent changed the world. Developed in controversy, it had the power to vastly increase the efficiency of any brain it entered. Despite ethical objections to the restructuring of the human brain, the substance was released into the atmosphere and saturated the world in a matter of days. Without consent, humanity was transformed into a race of geniuses (by the old standards, anyway.) But that was only the beginning. No one could have expected what happened next.
The agent had only been formulated for human brains, and could only work on them. Or so we thought. The agent saturated the entire biosphere, and nothing else changed; nothing else, except humanity's closest relatives. The other great apes became at least the equivalent of the old humans in intellect. They began to demand their own say in the running of the planet. Before tensions could escalate, the most brilliant members of each species met and settled a compromise, and on that day our Glorious Empire was born. Humans, Chimpanzees, Bonobos, Orangutangs, and Gorrilas united into one world order. Scientific progress accelerated, and in a decade the hominidae were ready to colonize the universe...
This RTD will likely be short, being sparked by the boredom and delerium that comes from sleep deprivation. I'm essentially doing this for practice. As such, I'm limiting this to 8 players for now.
