Pfft... walking on water. Around here, building megastructures by hand show who's blessed by Armok.

If hand-built megastructures are the true measure of divinity, then... all hail Osiris, Isis, Horus and Bastet!

Humans are slaves to ideology. It is in human nature to create a communally reinforced ideological platform from which to derive a group identity.

Religion is just ONE possible form of this ideological platform.

The fact that it is used to create group identity is what causes the violence. Not that it is religious.

Blood... for... the blood god?
Convincing Christians to worship Armok:
1) There is only one God.
2) Therefore, the Blood God is that God.
3) ???
4) BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

"Oh, so you believe that your god is NOT armok? Not the god of blood? OK then-- go re-read the old testament. See that part about absolution of sins requiring blood sacrifice, and that all men are sinners, and the wages of sin is death? Yeah-- see how big of a stickler he is for it? Even so much that he had to make jesus bleed horribly ad die painfully to even contemplate not throwing you in the lake of fire? Yeah.. explain how YHWH isnt' "armok" to me please."

Mankind may wonder why it is 'here'.  Religion provides an answer.
Mankind does not know what happens when they individually expire.  Religion answers that.

In short... Mankind is a slave to its insecurities and fears.  Religion placates much of those fears and insecurities.

If you don't believe in God, you can at least believe in what He represents: a noble ideal, the "opposite" of Human nature. Where Humans are selfish, vengeful, and ignorant, God is altruistic, forgiving, and wise. More pessimistically, God is a noble lie necessary for social compromise, altered in the direction of long-standing societal prejudices.

Gonna call this out that the Christian God is anything BUT a "noble ideal"
The reason I personally shut out the whole religion thing is when I realized that Noah's Ark was basically how Hitler would have spun the Holocaust.
I mean shit, this God guy drowned a unknowably huge number of people who he often refers to as his CHILDREN.
And then the one child he liked more then all the others he had tortured to death and told all the surviving children it was to save them (from himself no less)

And naturally a absurdly huge fraction of humanity believes this, and unironically worships this guy fully and wholeheartedly.

Wait WHUT.

Yeah Christian God = Hitler and Casey Anthony rolled into one.

((And the serious flame war begins :P
Note that this wasn't just to flame people, I DO believe this, and I fully believe Christians are crazy. ANTI-THEISM FOR THE WIN!))

And then the one child he liked more then all the others he had tortured to death and told all the surviving children it was to save them (from himself no less)
The point wasn't so much to save people from himself, it was to save people from themselves. Humans have a natural inclination to look out for themselves above all else, this can and does go so far as to refuse help or kindness in certain situations due to various reasons such as paranoia or egotism.

The point of the cross was God wanted us to know that he would die for us, that is how much he loves us. Now either he couldn't do it as a divine form either out of an impossible concept (as death is a human/animal/physical matter thing), or out of the sheer irresponsibility of such a concept(how could he save or let alone interact with us in any way if he was permanently dead?). So what God did was send an agent, Jesus Christ, to fit the bill.

Now why wouldn't he just present himself instead of go through putting someone through all this suffering? We'd in many places reject him, just as a child often will rebel against their own parents because they want to do their own thing. So he needed to put out a message that would show the sheer magnitude of the situation and stay with us for all time. That is why Jesus suffered so much, the message had to stick.

There's a big difference between rejecting your parents because they won't let you get a nosering and rejecting them because they drowned their last 6 billion kids in the bathtub.

Also, i'm pretty sure if God was like: "Hey i'm god, so calm the fuck down." people would listen. Mainly because he would have a ridiculous amount of ethos.
