So they're trying to keep the atmosphere friendly... With animal-human hybrids in the typical MMORPG 'Less is more!' clothing? I like the sentiment, nootttt so much the execution.

To be honest I have never seen a single MMORPG that didn't use the "less is more" ideal for female clothing.

FFXI, when it started, was pretty respectful iirc.
Now if you think about it almost any MMO has skimpy female clothing.
It also makes some sense with furries since they have fur and all.
I assume the current models are placeholders of sorts.
Personally i think that anthopomorphs in games look best with cellshading since normal 3D makes them look less than ideal... quite bad in fact. Cartoony all the way.
furries! This will go badly.

C'mon now. If you not into the furry thing you can simply not comment on it.

But it's kinda true.
Furries tend to wallow in drama of all sorts and if they don't you can bet someone will try to start shit just to enjoy the fireworks.
Basically everything invilving furries has a chance of bursting randomly into flaming manure.
So yeah it has a chance of going badly.

Which is, of course, why I must ask that this thread remain focused on the game.

We're only discussing the game that's been shown us.

I once shot a bear in the eye with a bow on the first shot, cut it up, found another one, and shot it in the eye too. The collective pile of meat weighed more than my house.

I have to say I like the look of this game here.
Unfortunately, the lack of any free to play trial period makes me unlikely to get this.
the main problem with the 'furry' content is not the members of the community - especially as they put so much emphasis on moderation - but the fact that the internet is not a very mature place in the main and it wouldn't surprise me if a large number of trolls pop up, despite the subscription fee.

My dreams are not unlike yours - they long for the safety, and break like a glass chandelier.
But there's laughter and oh there is love, just past the edge of our fears.
And there's chaos when push comes to shove, but it's music to my ears.

Anything related to furries or ponies flips on the troll switch of the internet, its so stupid. The subscription fee is sure to hinder at least some of them. So thats one positive way to look at a subscription-only payment system like this.

Im not exactly an expert on MMO payment systems, but I assume that MMO's with niche audiences would probably fair better on a subscription system than a F2P one (since I would think F2P only really becomes profitable with a large number of players).

But something like a weeks free trial would really help the fence-sitters.

The dev team is dedicated to keeping the atmosphere family friendly.
What? What does that mean? Who exactly is this being marketted to?

Well it probably means that it's E rated or Teen at most without open PvP (it's no fun getting killed/camped right?) overt gore, people dying left and right ETC.
I assume that Furries are the main demographic the game will cater to since suprisingly enough not every furry is obsesed with animalmen having sex.
So my best guess is that it's a game with furries that's also mostly safe for minors to play.

I'd put this game somewhere between Ultima Online and Toontown in terms of likely gameplay and player interaction.

There is a battle between "Oh my god, playable dragons" and "its an MMO..." going on in my head at the moment.

Will watch this for now.

Are you sure you're not me?

Oh wow... I really want to see this happen. I'll definitely be throwing some money at the Kickstarter, in a couple days when I'm sure my new debit card is good to go.

In other words: Posting to Watch. :P

People who like the idea of MMORPGs more than they like the ones that are out now, probably. It's not like it's being designed 'down' for kids, but they'd really like to keep the atmosphere clean and not drive significant amounts of players away (furry or not).

When TERA first revealed the Elin class, they also said it was family friendly.  Then it turned out to be 12 year old girls in panties...  So yeah, you can't really claim THIS game is "clean" with the scantily clad characters.

The Kickstarter wasn't funded. The devs are continuing, but they can't afford to quit their jobs to work full-time on it. They have no plans to try Kickstarter again.

They aim to use volunteers, after upgrading their custom engine to allow easy collaboration. If you've seen the Internet art programs that let multiple people to draw at once, they plan to have something like that for all of the content creation tools. It sounds both absurd and wonderful.

The server will be open from 9:00AM to 10:00PM (Mountain Time) on April first, if anyone's itching to see it. Be warned that most of the systems are pretty basic, and it's laggy. The rodent people and dragons won't be in for a while. Combat is still Hit Attack Button, Hurt Giant Bug. You can also smith weapons with different shapes and colors, fish, see the flavor profile framework for cooking, mine, catch lantern bugs, and buy different colored clothing.

Last year's April Fools event was Monohorn Awareness Day. Some of the Koro (deer) are born with only one horn, such as the healer-mage on the island. He handed out helpful informational pamphlets and forced everyone to wear a headband with a flag hanging from its one horn.

Huh, so is it free or something? They're going to support the game using their full time jobs, or is there a subscription? i'm a bit too lazy to look right now, though I may be a bit curious.

Not that I don't have a million other games I need to get to playing.

Currently, anyone who makes a free account gets to play when they open the servers. I don't know when they plan to start charging people, but it probably won't be until it's more 'game' and less 'alpha.'
