So you represent a faction? I thought you were just supposed to be one guy with a spaceship.

Nah, it's either way. You don't necessarily have to have a faction of your own. You can get more ships and hire pilots for them, though.

Also, in response to what someone else said: There will be planetary colonization, but it will happen post-release in an update.

I guess we just need to wait and see how complex the AI can be. Large scale wars would certainly be exciting, especially if the AI could actively plan a campaign rather than just going after a few targets.

I can imagine that if you could get to the point where there were 3-4 major powers vying for control over the galaxy it could become very interesting, especially if the end result ended in a completely different galaxy to how it started. Imagine one faction conquering everything, and due to siding with a faction that lost, you'd be on the run for the rest of the game? That'd be fantastic, but I've yet to see a game allow so much change in game play.

It just depends how much work he puts into the actual diplomacy/alliances meta-game, as that'd be where the long term enjoyment would come in, especially if it became almost 4x-like.

Well, that's along the lines of what we're hoping will happen. Whether it can happen convincingly and engagingly is all up to the beta... On the plus side, Josh is known for staying in close touch with his community and taking suggestions seriously, so hopefully that'll get any potential pitfalls ironed out.

is anything happening with this?  It looks like it has been about two years since the last devblog update.  Is there any more recent news than that?

Yeah, Josh posted an update today, actually. Here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/joshparnell/limit-theory-an-infinite-procedural-space-game/posts/1107942

The main page of the site is a bit broken - something about the hosting service he's using. I don't know the full details, but it basically won't update and he can't do anything with it until he moves to a new site, which he plans to do when Beta is released.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Ah, see, I've been checking the site every month or so and seeing nothing.  Everybody is with youtube channels and twitch streams these days, I'm just not with the times I guess.

I wonder how many other people thought development was stalled because they dont check the video sites?  Similar issue for other developers that post updates on Redit or 4chan or instagram or whatever random place is popular this week.

I agree - I thought development had completely finished since 2013 or whenever the last post was. Indie developers really, really need to get on top of the self promotion thing, and making sure stuff is up to date. There are so, so many upcoming games that it becomes pretty much impossible to keep up with things properly.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!!!

Heads up, Josh (the creator) has just started posting again (first post in about 2 years). Whilst I had completely given up hope on this, especially as he did the classic stopping communication->apology story->stop communication, he's apparently doing a playable demo at PAX South which shows that it's not all smoke and mirrors. As a TLDR, basically the game's performance just bottlenecked everything which he didn't see coming (somehow...) - he's had to build a lot of it from the ground up, and still hasn't found a proper solution for it. What he's said sounds alright, and he's promised to do weekly communication from now on.

Up to you to decide if it's actually going to go somewhere, but this project looked awesome and very nearly complete when he showed it off last.
