Urist McGoblinLord controversy
« on: January 16, 2014, 11:54:04 pm »

Imagine  the following situation:

1.Urist McBaby is kidnapped at the age of 1 to 11.
2.He is taken to the local goblin settlement.
3.He grows up to become Urist McGoblin.
4.He is promoted to Urist McGoblinAxelord.
5.Led by the said dwarf, goblins attack his own native fort where McGoblinAxelord was originally from.
6.McGoblinAxelord attacks and wounds his mother, but she runs away.
7.McGoblinAxelord confronts his own father, McMilitiaCommander.
8.McMilitiaCommander is forced to kill McGoblinAxelord.
9.The rest of the goblins are slaugtered.

It would be nice to hear your opinion on the following:

1.Is it possible for this story to be true at all?
2.Will Urist McMilitiaCommander get negative thought about killing his own child?
3.What about McMom?
4.What about his relatives (e.g. siblings)?
5.Shall Urist McGoblin escape from death somehow, will he get negative thought?

Thankyou!

If I understand correctly, goblins are at peace with my civ.

WTH? I want more sieges to train militia!

Uh, you have the kobold civ highlighted, not the dwarven civ.

even if you're 'at peace' with goblins, you'll get snatchers, sieges and ambushes. They're evil and attack you because you're there, not because you're at war.

In theory, migrants that had a baby snatched can see their now adult child return to attack your new fort. It's not too likely to happen unles populations of both civs are quite low. Babies or children snatched from your fort don't age when captured, so won't become axelord dwarf goblins.

Otherwise, I think children/siblings captured by goblins are considered dead and removed from the relations list, so I don't think their death later will cause problems

It could be true, when Legends are generated (and not as a byproduct of fortress mode). Just remember Cacame, the most badass non-dwarf-creature to ever walk the earths.

As far as thoughts go, they get unhappy when their children get napped. They can get unhappy due to loyalty and relationships acting up, even in death.

I believe the only question left is the possibility of those particular actions happening on Fortress Mode.

I have to write something... well here goes:
"A dwarf isn't a dwarf unless he dies the most !!FUN!! of ways", Quote unknown, possibly Armok.

Doktoro Reichard is quite pleased with making a Great Carbonite Trap

Why shouldn't you write with a broken pencil? Because it's pointless!

The wiki states at http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Siege

"Goblins may also bring elite human or even dwarven fighters as leaders of their squads, previously kidnapped by snatchers."

Henceforth, it should be possible to see dwarves in the goblin ranks...

It would be exceptionally unlikely for one of your fortress's member's children to become a goblin soldier, and then show up in a siege, and then be killed by their parent, but still technically possible.

I thought that the time is frozen while you play the game. Do kidnapped children grow up like that?

Blue Dwarf has been happy lately. He did some !!science!! recently. He admired a fine forum post lately. He was enraged by a forum troll recently. He was upset by the delayed release of the new version of Dwarf Fortress lately. He took joy in planning a noble's death recently.

not as far as I know. If you play a second fort in a world and then a third and that third, 20 years on, attracts a family of father, mother, son from your first fort, the son will be 20 years older, but still a child untill the game next checks which children become adults
