Buying Cards!
« on: January 16, 2014, 10:55:15 pm »

I wanted to buy some Yugioh cards, mostly because the game has been revived in my school and I have really awful old gen cards. Despite picking out what I want, I cannot seem to find a good way to buy them, and I don't want to throw money away on packs without getting what I want. Any help would be appreciated.

From my experience looking around Amazon for D&D plastic miniatures - which are sold officially in much the same way, randomized packs with commons, uncommons, and rares - people like to overprice them. You would think it would be enough to buy a booster, pick out the figures you want to keep, and sell the excess to recoup your purchase price. Oh no; these titans of business want to actually make money reselling. Pretty stupid if ya ask me.

For example, I found a site where they sell off their huge stock of unwanted minis for about $4 each. But the same mini they will buy from you for $0.60. And they don't buy lots of less than $10, which means their labor is very small compared to the eventual 666% markup.

(I swear I didn't plan that, it's just awesome)

Also, metal miniatures from manufacturers sell for less. I just visited a brick and mortar gaming shop and bought some metal figures for $4 each including tax.

Which means: these common D&D minis, cheaper materials and lower-quality sculpting, really should sell for $2 or so, $3 maximum.

ANYWAY

I don't have much to offer for card-game advice but I thought I'd throw that out there since it's the same kind of market.
