Super Crazy Berserker dude

So I was planning on making an adventurer in light armor with a two handed sword and no shield inspired by no character in particular (Gats from Berserk). Is there any way to survive with this character besides investing atrociously in dodging?

Bring lots and lots of followers and run away when you get ambushed because the more followers you have the more ambushers there are.

Also you could try being an outsider. Sometimes when I play as an outsider, bandits and other ambushers are neutral to me. That means they go about slaying my companions while I watch and then stand around. They will even join you if you killed a monster they don't like, too which leads to the funny situation where you recruit the guys who killed all your allies while surrounded by the corpses of said allies.

You can survive just fine by dodging. Since you won't be slowed down by armour, you can dodge even more effectively than otherwise. This, however, conflicts with your weapon-of-choice, two-handed sword. I'd take a naked elf (speed and agility boost) with a shield and spear and dance around the enemies, stabbing them until they bleed to death. Swords are fine, too, but you should try to minimize the weight you're carrying.

If you really want to go with berserker adventurer, dwarf would be an obvious choice due martial trances. You'll need awesome willpower, toughness and endurance. Grind your attributes and abilities by letting something relatively weak hit you continuously - for example, kill all bandits but one, disarm him and then let him hit you whole night. Set "wait" button to "immediate repeat" from key bindings.

1. Find a marmot
2. Choke it a bit so it loses consciousness
3. Punch it's teeth out
4.Now grab it by some random bodypart and sit down
...
5. PROFIT, you're now a dodge god

I found a human city named Sleevevirgins. It was easily the biggest city in the world, so clearly I wasn't the first person to come inside the city's walls.

So the upshot would be -
put points in observer skill
don't skimp on attributes, especially avoid deep dumping on stuff that _may_ be of some effect.

I had suspected that observer was a valuable skill in combat, and the thread suggests very strongly that it helps very much with dodging (and focus and intuition are important attributes for the skill, which train very, very slowly).

Dodging is a decent way to avoid harm in combat, but works not nearly as well as shields. You should probably be careful to only fight one foe at a time. If facing stuff that's not overly huge, you could try charging attacks - when successful, those knock a target to the ground and stun it, making your life much safer. It would be totally in keeping with a crazy berserker, too.

I would plug some points into willpower, because you're going to be in lots of pain...

They will even join you if you killed a monster they don't like, too which leads to the funny situation where you recruit the guys who killed all your allies while surrounded by the corpses of said allies.

Honestly, that sounds like common sense.

Get a crossbow to soften enemies before they get within melee range. Guts also has a crossbow.
