I eagerly await Goblins leaping over holes and climbing walls.

I would hope that the AI used for dodging near ledges has been updated to use the new logic for jumping horizontally, making dodging near edges less likely to occur (unless it involves jumping over a gap onto stable ground, such as jumping off a bridge and landing at the mouth of a volcano instead of dodging into the volcano). Although that doesn't sound like proper AI for dwarf fortress, and I'm sure many players would be very upset with their heavily nerfed dodge traps.

Simple. Just do it like this:

Below? Spike traps. Creatures won't be able to jump+grapple walls in the next version AFAIK.

The player character can, so it's not out of the question for AI. You'll just have to smooth your walls.

I also went back and did a few climbing issues still on the table -- there is a climbing skill now, and things like constructed block walls are harder to climb than constructed rough walls (smoothed natural walls can't be climbed at all, at least while we are still dealing with tool-less people). Failing a climb move can be reasonably traumatic, depending on where the ground is. You can still grab hold of walls/etc. when you fall as you could already when jumping etc., but it is more difficult now.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

The latest devlog:

Longer jumps aren't yet possible for them, since it is harder to code running starts into the pathing routine, and they don't understand how to jump and then hang onto surface. It's a weakness you can exploit, but they still hop around and cause trouble enough to delight and entertain.

No, I meant that creatures will learn when not to dodge. The idea being that when they consider dodging, their jumping path-finding-AI kicks in, looks around, realizes there is nowhere to jump to, and decides not to dodge. Its not about escaping the trap, its about being smart enough not to dodge.

5 days with no blog post. Could it be?

Let us all gather round the altar of stone in prayer to Armok, chanting the unholy verses of blood, and have faith that it shall be so.

But in all seriousness, probably not. It sounded like there would be a relatively lengthy - few weeks, perhaps? - round of bugfixing and whatnot before release. I don't recall him having started in on that yet from recent blog posts.

Then again, I could easily be wrong and that's what he's been doing in silence for the last while. I really, really want to play Adventure Mode with all the new features.

Just finished up talk at Power of Play. Met a lot of cool devs there!
That's probably at least one reason for silence.

I already started by sacrificing 167 dwarves and 234 goblins to Armok. It was glorious.

After the next release comes, I'll probably just play DF 24/7 few weeks. Not that I wouldn't do that normally...

I don't. It'll be all over the Gameplay and Fortress Mode forums in about five minutes. >.>

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
