My laptop has an option (by default I think) to simulate MMB by pressing both mouse buttons together, though the timing had to be pretty good.  I often ended up right-clicking and "hiding" topics (annoying feature, ugh).  It was worth it though, I very often MMB enemies to check whether they're bleeding, and to see what they're equipped with.

I eventually realized that I do have a MMB, it's just associated with the nub mouse -_-

Anyway maybe check your laptop's touchpad widget or whatever, it might have a similar option for simulating MMB.  Hopefully a better one!

Molotovs do 5 damage that ignores armor. The drones have 5HP.
Ooh thanks.  That base was stupidly underarmed due to my reliance on dogs, but molotovs are cheap and very handy.  Never tried against drones though.

Electricity damage. Especially if you spawn north of (behind? above?) the hangar; you'll be right behind them. Lassos work great if they're floating higher up.
Lassos are so great, I'm starting to phase out stun batons for them.  Batons are lovely against modestly armored enemies and for training melee up the whazoo (reactions too which I tend to forget) but lassos have the range and the OOMPH.

Stun batons are still nice, because they're so fast. 7 TU (instead of 32 for lasso) means anyone can use them repeatedly, and they train reactions as well as melee. Great for newbies. Also, the +power means the damage is nearly as good (about 30-40 damage vs 60). But the range on the lassos are nice (especially when *someone* has been throwing around molotovs again), and the higher damage helps with higher armor. Although both ignore 25% of armor. Problem being, all of the enemies I need the damage against have electricity resist. And lassos can target fences, and will absolutely murder them. Each has benefits.

Luckily, using whatever you can scrounge causes you to use a nice mix of weapons.

Yeah being able to delete fences has been unironically pleasant.  Particularly on that wild (new?) city raid.  Which was a total trip, by the way.  I wonder if I got lucky, because there were only 1 or 2 wolf-police.  Some Osiron sec and cheeky Sharp Guys got some hits in, and the map is huge, but certainly lucrative.

...Oh right ubers weren't allowed, it was kinda designed for my Turtle full of peasants XD

Meanwhile my proper gals took on some church ship.  It couldn't have been bigger than medium, yet they had 25 troops on map DX  Almost entirely shielded, beastmasters and zealots mainly.  Also:
A pair of novices (with gauss muskets why not)

A pair of lightning-fast exalts who got three one-hit-kills with their stupid insubstantial psi-weapons, one through a window I'm pretty sure the Turtle didn't have in J15

A couple of Chryssalids who died in a hail of Smartgun and Linux Mandrake fire.  oh and a fartbag which has my boss gal leading from the hospital for a few months while she grows a new torso.

Very bloody mission altogether since almost everyone had yellow shields, which is the Church's way of ensuring martydom.  how twisted is a shield which does nothing against bullets, mostly just less-lethal attacks.  Though I guess I got lucky there too:

... There was an Academy Pogrom okay?  jeez I really need to build a large prison.
Also in my defense I'm *finally* researching persuasion, thanks to that Young Uber from that pogrom, which will let me break the Engineer.
Got the Cardinal in an early boot camp, it'll be satisfying to be able to do something with him too hehe.

Anyway... smartguns with plastateel munitions are surprisingly powerful and accurate, good for trained peasants, though I still like wheeled machineguns and UAC chainguns.  Male Touch freakin sucks, I'm still using peasants instead of SS (though I did just discover Crusader armor, which has the ability to survive its user's death... hmm~).  My limited gals are surviving pretty well in full tac armor and heavy weaponry, using dogs and peasants to scout for their HMGs, but I miss using them like chryssalids :P

In the X Prison mission, where you cleverly sneak into prison with no equipment: So is there an easy way to release the 3 gals who aren't in the bathroom or exam room from their prison cells? This is like the 3rd time I have to open them with the pickaxe to the cell door. I'd like the 4th time to be the easy way.

 .... snip ...
Don't knock those chain-link fences, 'cause if there is one thing I learned from the reticulan base mission - chain-link fences stop plasma and laser, tht Mechtoid can sit there all day firing his dinky plasma rifle at me, but I'm safe from that garbage can .. however, when the elder turns up with a military shotgun, gotta neutralise him fast, coz shotties wreck fences.
Must ask Dioxene to make a suit of armour based on chain-link fences for 100% protection from plasma and laser.

Really though, they're stupid resilient.  I was not being ironic.  Being able to whip a segment of fence out of my way is an actual tactical advantage, even with the hefty TU expense.

Nope, pickaxe it is, I am pretty sure.

You can use that to attack with up to 4 vessels at the same time as well.
And I think that was possible in the original as well, but I might misremember.

I only just realized that you can sic a ship (like the airbus) on another flying vessel, leave it on 'Shadow them,' and then click the window icon in the top left corner of the combat screen to put it away and your ship will just follow that vessel to wherever it's going.

It's not possible to down enemy craft early-game with Piratez, but you don't need to! They'll land on their own! This opens up new avenues of piracy! Ugh, I feel so stupid.

Including, but not limited to  early-game reticulans, fat guys with low-end guild units, raiders, and rarely nurses. I also think that's been in there since the original. Also, use that to have your toughest ship attack first (so it gets attacked first), then all of the glass cannon interceptors. Stuff like shields and high repair rates are good on the lead ship.

Sounds like SOMEONE didn't read all the "what to wear", or you'd have seen that Ubers disguised (?!?!?) in Looter can traipse in just fine, like just about every other mission but ones like Ratman Caches, Ret Vats, and anything in space. :p

Just to ratchet up your paranoia a bit, at some point those guild passenger flights can start having skinjob Mk.801s posing as Tough Gals.

Yeah, but you have like 2 years before you start seeing terminator wear a human suit.

Oh, and to build a casino, I need secure freight. Where do I get that, and how do I find the mission/ship that provides it?

Edit: unless other buildings also count as gambling buildings, so I can turn in more than iron coupons.

You need to shoot down a heavy freighter for secure freight. The guild needs to be sufficiently annoyed to use them.
Casino needs an obscene amount of $200 chips.

Are they that bad? I have exactly one peasant space suit so I've been using a single moderately well trained peasant on my space missions (with a surprising degree of success) and she managed to shoot down two naked ones via reaction fire, in the same turn. (With a laspistol looted from a previous space mission too.)

Do the ships that give "fugitive search orders" only spawn in the beginning? I started a new game, and for some reason none of them landed in the radar area this time.

You don't need to build the casino to turn in coupons, just research it.
