Dominion [Deck-Building Game]
« on: January 13, 2014, 01:15:34 pm »

Some of us have been playing this quite a bit for a few days, and it apparently does not have a topic, so:

Dominion is a fairly popular board game that also has at least one free [base game] online version, its a deck building game where you compete with 1-6 people to build a effective deck and get the most victory points. It has around 7.5 expansions, but even with just the base game the games got a fair amount of replay-ability as the cards you use to build your deck can be different everytime [unless you use prebuilts].

There are several hundred players online at any given time on this web version, so its fairly easy to just join a game. Further, only the host has to have the expansions to have the extra cards, and anyone can join even without them, so you can just join other peoples games who have the expansions, to experience/try them.

Also: really easy game to just play with some people in the DFC chat, as its free, and fairly quick to start. [Although it can take a bit to play through sometimes, and if one player quits/dc's the game ends.]

What the Game roughly looks like in the Html5 version:

Dominion is such a fun game, I didn't know there was a web version.  :)

I've played it a few times, along with some other really good card games (Race for the Galaxy) but ultimately they all feel like singleplayer games to me. Everybody is doing their own thing, and then at the end you compare points.

I dig the deck-building aspect, but have always really felt a lack of actual interaction. This was the base game, where there was only one card that could actually directly do something to other players. Anybody else experience this? I feel like I'm an outsider with this opinion - everybody else seems to adore Dominion :)

I'll definitely need to give it another try :)

You aren't wrong.  I tend to view the game as more of a race to the finish than a game where you try to counter each other.  Races can be fun too.

The base game feels like that quite a bit, but the add on packs of different cards change that quite a bit. Especially once you start getting into the curse cards.

I prefer Core Worlds. MUCH less single player.

Any unofficial versions of the game are illigit at this point because official versions exist and that was the agreement between the unofficial and Rio Grande.
