Catherine stuck to the outskirts, as she usually did, but this time instead of just idly doodling in her notebook, she was busily jotting down strange runes as she continued to try to establish communications with the chatty alien situated on the table beside her, eating all of the cheese out of her lunchbox.
It was good to have a friend of sorts, no matter how strange, and it was a relief that several others had turned up with odd creatures or machines themselves, so she didn't have to keep BB hidden in her bag the entire day (naturally, she couldn't just leave it to run around the house all day by itself!), but the whole situation left an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach... Nobody had any idea where these things came from or how dangerous they might potentially be, but everyone was just running around with them like they were the coolest things in the world. ...Well, they were, really, but... it worried her. That, and her uncle had been away from home for the past few days for job-related reasons; how was she ever going to explain this whole thing to him when he got home tonight?
BB's excited/alarmed bouncing and jabbering finally draws her full attention, as it seemed to be trying to indicate some sort of standoff happening a few tables down... Obviously, she couldn't hear what they were saying, but it didn't look friendly. If the local bullies got a hold of these things... what if they really were dangerous? Catherine grimaced, chewing nervously on the end of her pencil as she watched the proceedings unfold.
